He was an American financier and banker. Morgan dominated corporate finance and industrial consolidation in late 19th century and early 20th century. Morgan first went into banking in 1857 then moved around the country and joined many other banks from there on. In 1861 he married Amelia Struges but she died a year later. He then married Louisa Tracy in year 1865 and have four children. Morgan died on March 31, 1913 in Rome, Italy. He has helped stabilize American financial markets during economic crises such as the panic of 1907. During the late 19th century, the U.S. railroad industry had rapid expansion and heated competition. His father was a successful businessman. Morgan partnered with a New York City firm in 1871, it then took his name in 1895 and was changed to "J.P. Morgan and Company". It became the most powerful banking house in the country. In 1898, Morgan then formed the Federal Steel Company. He also partnered with other steel companies and made a fortune off of steel. Not only was Morgan a businessman, he was a philanthropist. He collected fine art in his free time.
