The book  traced the history of rap music from the past twenty-five years of rap and hip-hop.The couple worked hard on the book before they decided to finally publish it and sell it in the store called, “ The Store”. They went with the publishing company,  "Independent Publishing"  from the recommendation of “The Store” and sent an application for their book. Within less than a minute of applying, they received an email back. After reading the email, they realized they were rejected but no reason was given. It was pretty clear that “The Store”  wanted nothing to do with Morgan and Jacob and was behind them not getting their book published. The Brandeis decided to find out the background information about the influence The Store had on the publishing company. So Morgan and Jacob decided to invite their eight closest friends to a dinner party to tell them some news. The news was that they were going to Nebraska because The Store human resource department had offered them jobs. But the news they had to share with their friends were lies. They were technically telling the truth how they were moving to Nebraska but The Store never offered them a job. After The Store rejected their manuscript Morgan and Jacob were furious. So they had a plan to unleash all of The Store's secrets and their plans. The only thing they had to do now was actually get hired which was incredibly easy. Soon, Morgan and Jacob were hired. But The Store made it clear that they were not being assigned to high-level, white-collar corporate jobs. They were just strictly factory jobs, filling orders and pasting on mailing labels. One of the perks of working for the company was available housing. Alex also realized it was a tiny camera like a spy camera inside. After Alex showed Jacob, Jacob started to go around the house finding multiple cameras all over the place. This scared the family due to the fact there could be more still in the house. The next day they all decided to get their minds off things and went downtown. They notice that no one was out walking  on the street and how the town looked like it was built in the 80's. They all felt like something was strange about this town. But tried to brush it off. Soon they started to see some people around the town but they were all elderly people. They came to realize that The Store had a whole community for elderly people. Morgan and Jacob soon saw a bookstore which they knew they just had to check out. When they walked in an old-fashioned feather duster sat on a tall wooden checkout desk. Which appealed to have not been used in a while and almost everything covered with a thin layer of dust. Then a lady out of nowhere shot through the room calling  Morgan and Jacob name. As soon as she saw them she introduced herself saying she was Deb Borelli the librarian and welcomed them to New Burg. As soon as they left they felt weird vibes all over the place. They decided it was time to go home but while driving they all saw flashing lights and heard sirens behind them. Everyone was confused about what was going on. But the only thing they could do was pull over and wait. While they were waiting for a police officer to inform them what was going on, a loudspeaker shouted to halt the vehicle then a police officer came up to them and welcomed them to Burg and told them to have a nice day. This made no sense to them but they realized that nothing in this town made sense. The next day Morgan and Jacob wanted to start writing their new book about The Store. The book would be about how insane the company was. While waiting for it they decided to go up to the attic which they inspected as there wasn't any spy camera in. While up there they notice a box marked The Store Home Office Supplies. With everything in the box it had things that Morgan and Jacob would use from their writing but none of them recognized the box. Usually going to church wasn't usual for them but after everything that happened the past few days they thought they needed help from the higher power.. When they got there they were already late and already packed with cars in the parking lot. While walking up to a church they saw this man getting out of his car, all they could notice was that he was super tall and handsome. And right when the man saw the Brandeis he walked up to them like he knew them. He gave them a big hug with a big smile, while his wife came out of the car. They introduced them as Bud and Bette. After the service, Bud told them that they would see them again one day. Then he disappeared with his wife.They seemed odd just like everyone in the town, so they just brushed it off like usual. The next day it was their first day working for the Store. They had a plan to find and search for as much information they could find about the Store so they could write it in their book. Right as they walked in the Store all they saw was “No Worries” signs everywhere. And saying that with working for the Store you can get free things. When they kept walking around they came to realize they have anything and everything you could imagine. Which was kind of scary, it felt like a trap. The Store had lots of high tech things but they were always watching your every move. You could see drown in the air watching and the spy cameras looked like the ones in their home.  When Morgan and Jacob were trying to go into a photo room they both heard voices and it sounded familiar to them. It was Bud and Bette, they also worked at the Store they told them that they couldn’t talk but would meet again. Morgan and Jacob felt like that was all they would say which started to get creepy. When they left,  Morgan and Jacob looked at each other suspicious and tried to brush it off. When they got home, Alex rushed to them and told them that two people were waiting in the dining room for them. Of course it was Bud and Bette. Bud and Bette told them that the cameras in their house always come back. At first Morgan and Jacob were confused about how they knew that but remembered that everyone knew everything about the people who live in New Burgs. But Bud and Bette came to warn them that soon they would be interviewed from the Store. Anyone  could get an interview at any time. The questions range from personal to high intellectual questions or just plan stupid questions. After hearing all of this, The Brandeis family decided to practice asking each other questions. The next day they were all reported to go to The Store and for everyone of them to be interviewed. Which was a shock to both Morgan and Jacob since it was just their first day of school. And they said how the school gave everyone brand-new phones and new laptops too. While Morgan watched Lindsay and Alex behavior they seemed a little too excited about school. Soon one lady told everyone that it was time for the "Store Talk".  Of course Morgan and Jacob were confused on what was going on but soon caught up with them. It was about how they picked a bunch of topics that are sort of meaningful to New Burg and the Store. And when Morgan and Jacob heard this they both got excited because they could get lots of information about The Store. Soon things got out of hand with one of the topics they were talking about. Bette was telling everyone how the town has been a little strange lately and one person agreed with her. Everyone else was saying how perfect it was and that she was crazy for saying so. Bette was hoping Morgan and Jacob would help her but they knew they couldn’t agree with Bette. They knew if they did their cover would be blown up so they stayed quiet. The next day on that Monday morning, Jacob wanted to see if he could stop by and see Bud at work in the chemical warehouse. When he got there Jacob asked a lady if she knew a Bud Robinson. She knew Bud but he didn’t work there anymore.  He had been transferred. The lady soon explained that they would transfer candidates to the main office, in San Francisco , for debriefing before reassignment. All Megan and Jacob knew was that less than twenty-four hours after the barbecue, Bette and Bud were being transferred or had been transferred or were being debriefed before they were transferred. So Morgan and Jacob knew they had to find them. Later that day Morgan and Jacob pulled up to Bud and Bette house. When someone answered the door it wasn't Bud or Bette it was a lady they never seen before. She introduced herself saying she was new to the neighbor and Morgan and Jacob were confused. They asked her what she meant and she was new to the neighborhood. Morgan and Jacob started asking if they knew anything about Bud and Bette which she didn't. It was kind of strange because she didn't even applied for the job. But Morgan and Jacob knew they could get lots of information about The Store's plan to put in their book. Jacob had a feeling that their boss Sam Ree had a little thing for Morgan. So Jacob warned Morgan about their boss. But Morgan told Jacob to not worry. But that made Jacob worry even more. That next week Morgan was inform that Sam and Morgan would be attending a five-day conference for The Store supervisors. When Morgan told this to Jacob, he asked  if he could tag along with them so she wouldn't be alone. But she knew the real reason why he wanted to come but soon agree for Jacob to came. The day Morgan had top left for the business trip she had to go on a different flight with a big group of executive-level people from The Store. So Jacob had to go on a different flight. When they got there they both had to go to this big meeting to see the big boss Mr. Owens the founder of The Store. Of course Morgan and Jacob were excited because they could meet him and see the master mind. But the thing was no one knew much or anything about Mr. Owens. In fact no one ever met him so Morgan and Jacob were excited to finally meet this mystery man. When the meeting started a lady announced that unfortunately Mr. Owens wasn't able to come for personal reasons. After everyone heard this news Jacob realized that people were crying from this. Which didn't seem like that big of a deal to cry about. When they saw each other they all gave hugs and kissing. Morgan asked where they were. Bette explained how the night after the barbecue they got a call from The Store saying they were sending a car to take them to the airport to go to San Jose. And that was how they got transferred. And Bud and Bette acted like it was fine and normal, and had big smiling faces the whole time. In no way Morgan and Jacob thought it was normal. But soon enough Bud and Bette had to go and say their goodbyes. Knowing they might not see each other for a while. When Bud and Bette left Morgan and Jacob decided to get their minds off things by getting something to eat. They both thought it was a nice night to walk downtown and find something good to eat. While walking they both heard honking horns from a distance and saw a huge SUV on fire and crashed. And heard sirens from a distance and then boom almost everything was on flames. A police officer told everyone who was close by to walk away and they did while firefighters tackled the flames. The next morning Morgan and Jacob heard nothing about what happened last night. As if the accident had never happened. By the morning it was finally time to go back to New Burg. Later that night they got home hoping their kids would be excited to see them as it was quiet as if they were never there. Jacob started to get angry with his kids because they didn't have the nerve to speech to Morgan and Jacob. But after his rage Jacob decided to go to the attic to worked on the book. Morgan was at work twenty-four seven.  Alex and Lindsay were always busy with school. Jacob pretty much had the house to himself until everyone got home. All Jacob worked on was the book. At that point Morgan wasn't even working on it, it was just Jacob. But Jacob enjoyed writing the book until to the point that is all he did. Morgan and the kids started to think that Jacob was losing the mind of that book. One night they all had dinner, it was quite as usual. Until they heard a bang at the door. Two men were there to enforce a town and state request. Morgan and Jacob had no choice but to open the front door. When the two men came in they wanted Jacob's computer only. Jacob first recited because it had some information about The Store. But Morgan and the kids told Jacob to just give it to them. When Jacob got the computer he was thankful had a hard drive with all the information about The Store and with the book they were writing. But the thing was that the two men didn't ask for anything else, just Jacob's computer, not Morgan's computer too. He was going to call Anne Gutman to see if she could help Jacob. When he spoke to her, she explained she has a close friend named Maggie Pine, who lived in Iowa that could help him. So Jacob headed down to Iowa and met up with Maggie. Where she lived looked exactly like New Burg but better and brighter. Jacob actually felt free for once in a really long time. After a few days of staying there, Jacob was starting to miss his family. He thought about calling them but he knew if he did that he would risk it all. One morning Maggie hollered and scream for Jacob to come down. Jacob rushed downstairs to see all the people he knew in New Burgs. He saw his family and Bud and Bette and some other people he hardly knew of. They all came to tell Jacob that they were worried about him. And thought he was going crazy and wanted him to come back home. Jacob realized that Maggie wasn't helping him get away. Matter in fact no one was helping him, not even Morgan. So Jacob decided it was better to listen to everyone and just go home. And he told everyone could go back to New Burg while Jacob packed all of his things and went in his own car. When Jacob went into the bathroom to use the bathroom. He decided to snoop around and look in the linen closet and he found a way outside like a tunnel. While riding Jacob heard on the news that The Store was looking for him and making it seem like Jacob was a dangerous person. Jacob decided he had to somehow get to New York fast. But he knew from watching mystery movies that he had to drop his car off somehow. Jacob saw a old gas station that looked like no one has been there in years. And parked to get some food. But when he came back his car was done. Nowhere to be seen like it just vanished. So the only thing he could do was walk. While walking a car came up to Jacob saying he could give him a ride. From the looks of the the guy, he looked young and looked like he look stupid. But Jacob knew that was his only option. So he decided to get in with him. The young man introduced himself as Kenny. When Kenny asked for Jacob's name, Jacob told him his name was George. Because Jacob knew if he told him his real name that who know it would happened. Then Kenny ask where Jacob wanted to go. And when Jacob said New York Kenny said his car can only take him to Naperville, Illinois. So that was where they were heading. While riding in the silence Kenny turned on the radio, and it was talking about Jacob and how The Store was trying to find him. When they heard this Jacob looked up at Kenny. And Kenny looked like he was even listening to what it was saying. So Jacob thought he was in the clear. Jacob soon decided to take a nap. When he woke up Kenny told him he knew who he was. Jacob tried playing it off the best way he could be he soon gave up. Jacob was in shock because Jacob didn't think that Kenny would figure it out because he seemed like he didn't even know what he was doing most of the time. They both knew that Jacob couldn’t get out because that could get him caught. So Kenny got out of the car and went to Jacob's side of the car and peed outside. With the window down Kenny and Jacob were talking about the book. When Kenny was finished using the bathroom he asked what Jacob's book was called. Jacob said "Twenty-Twenty''. Kenny said he really liked the name. As soon as you know it Kenny kicked Jacob out the car. Kenny was gone. Jacob knew he was stupid for trust him and telling him his whole life story. But it was to last now.  In Joliet, Illinois Jacob hopped a freight train. Then twelve hours later Jacob was in New York. As soon as he got off he knew he had to find Anne Gutman. He didn't have a phone with him to call her but he knew she would probably be in her office. A few hours passed and he finally found Anne's office. He didn't know why it took so long because before he moved to New Burg he went to Anne's office all the time. But he guess since it's been awhile he must have forgotten. When he left her office he came out with two fifty-dollar bills. Jacob knew he had to spend it wisely so he got a disposable phone, some food, and a hotel room. A few days later, Jacob got an anonymous note saying to check out a website. Jacob’s  book being published by an anonymous author. Which was crazy because Jacob didn't even publish it yet. When he started to read it he knew those words weren't his. The book was about how great The Store was. Which Jacob knew that was not true at all. That was when he knew The Store published it. The next day Jacob headed to Anne's office and asked if she could come with him to talk to the founder of The Store about the book they stole for Jacob. Anne agrees to go. So Jacob and Anne headed up and when they got there. Jacob confirmed Mr. Owens about the book and he laughed it off like it was nothing. Mr. Owens told him it was just a book and that he didn't even write it. Jacob and Anne were furious so they scheduled a conference to publish their real book. At the conference Jacob confessed that everything was an act. Every person they met were lies. Everything they said were lies. The Store thought they were tricking the Brandeis. But it was the Brandies tricking The Store. After everything that happened Jacob and Morgan were finally revealed to be done with this mistake. After fifteen months,  Jacob and Morgan moved back to New York and continued writing. They weren't that well known from their book.
