I believe that the guideline that most students violate the most is the fifth commandment, which is 'Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness.' In today's age, it seems that people tend to fabricate reality and lie about others. It is extremely common with the uprise of cancel culture, where people can get "canceled" (or the public turns against them) without much proof being needed. Then, after some time, sometimes, it comes out that the accuser lied about things that they said.

People love to gossip and make their lives seem grander than they actually are, especially adolescents (which is the primary age category that students fall under). People want to be better off than the next person, so through the internet, they can lie about their accomplishments and even who they are. Along with this, the anonymity of online promotes an environment where people do not have to be completely truthful, since it can be dangerous to be. In regard to cancel culture, people love the drama of it all, even if it is at the expense of others.

I am not sure if there is anything that we can really do, as there is not much to change the way that the internet operates. I believe that the only thing that we can do is to teach students--and people as a whole--that lying is morally wrong. Being untruthful about who you are, about situations, and about other people can only cause harm once the truth comes out. It is important to teach moral ethics to ensure that more people understand the consequences of lying, especially over the internet.
