Extra classes - A compulsory part of Vietnamese education

After primary school, I showed a specific interest in English. My parents then encouraged me to apply for a specialised school (which is very prestigious and demanding). I started attending more and more extra classes to prepare for the entrance exam (for the national high school entrance exam and the specific examination of the specialised school)

However, I didn't make it to the specialised school, and I had to attend a "normal" school. To me, it was an utter failure. Because I was bored to death with the national curriculum (focusing on theoretical knowledge, a lot of teacher-centered sessions, too many subjects we needed to focus on).

However, my family and friends helped me get over that feelings, which fueled me to focus on my choice of university. I crammed for the exam (again), trying my best and promising myself I would be in an university that promote not only academic excellence but also transferable skills, extra-curricular activities and more social activities - finding the people that are more like me)

Those were the exciting and founding years of my education.

We were engaging in different forms of assessment, teaching, and understanding of acquiring languages and knowledge.

I became more active in classes (having more chances to ask questions, being exposed to teachers who provide though-provoking guiding questions and looking into my perspective of the problem). I had more form of assessment and involved in different skills (designing, video/movie making, academic writing, interviewing)
