         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Cotton Club was first opened in 1923, on 142nd St &amp; Lenox Ave in Harlem, New York. It was operated by a New York gangster Owney Madden. Madden used the club as an outlet to sell his alcohol during the prohibition period.&nbsp;<br><br>The Club shows musical revues that featured dancers, singers, comedians, and entertainment for the audience. They even have a house band. Duke Ellington, an American composer, pianist, and he was also the leader of the jazz orchestra. Both The Cotton Club and Ellington's Orchestra gained a tremendous amount of national notoriety through radio stations. It operated most notably in the Prohibition Era. It was a whites&nbsp; only establishment even though it featured even though it featured&nbsp; the most popular black entertainers of the era.
