The key, coin, and hole in the wall symbolize what keeps most people grounded, or the things they aim for. The key symbolizes possession, ownership, or having control. They coin, therefore,  is greed, and the hole is perfection. These are not in color because they are not what keep me personally grounded in life. The hands are what keep me grounded, and they represent my friends and family, and the people in my life. I think one of the things that went well in the piece was the juxtaposition of the hard ink figure to the watercolor dreams and memories, representing how those dreams and memories become the foundation for who we become. If I had more time, I would have more effectively tied the yellow glow of the dreams state to the primary figure. One of Daisy's comments that helped me was when she gave me recommendations on what to do with the background. Faces have been a problem, specifically being able to draw faces in a way so the person is identifiable. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, and the idiom I chose was the first one I saw that spoke to me. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums, which is why I included the small cutouts of the hand, birds, and the clouds. Everything else in this collage were random things I saw or ideas that came to me randomly. This project was very fun, nevertheless, and I love how it turned out despite its randomness and lack of planning. My art shows improvement in multiple ways, more specifically in composition. This is very clear to me as I compare my projects, more specifically when comparing my first piece (Grounded) and my final piece (the Collage). In Grounded, my struggle was not necessarily lack in practice or drawing skills, but the layout of my piece. It looks very blank and unfinished, and does not successfully display what I intended. Actually, I think this project would be the perfect piece that I could go back and add more to, or even redo it with the same idea. In comparison to my final project, the difference is drastic. My collage has much better composition, and looks very lively. I also think I've started expressing my personality more in my artwork, and with every piece I make I can see myself more and more. I've also improved my skill with many different materials this year, specifically watercolor since I have spent lots of time working with it, but I still believe my biggest improvement was with composition and successfully expressing my personality/portraying the message I want. I've learned many things in art this year, and i believe that includes any and all aspects. Artists always have room to learn and grow, and I think I've learned more things than I would even be able to count. As for my future art career, I'd like to keep exploring and develop my own style.
