I want to become a nurse for several reasons, I am fascinated by human contact especially with children, to relate to people and this feels empathy, fundamental for this type of work. Through this type of path I can take care of people, this gratifies me and gives me personal satisfaction. It is a job that helps to get to know you personally, to know your limits to overcome them but above all helps to know your strengths. I decided to become a nurse within a few months, it was not a planned thing as many may think but I found myself in this environment by accident. Only during the journey I realized that it is a job for me, I really like children but I have always been afraid of needles, blood and hospital. No one has influenced my decision but everyone along my path has always encouraged me to understand more and more that this is my path and that I am suitable to do this work in contact with children.

The dialogue I hear most frequently at the hospital is hospitalization. When you make a hospitalization we nurses ask the patient several questions to investigate his lifestyle, fundamental to find an adequate pharmacological therapy to cure him.

A good nurse not only has to be good technically but must have empathy with the patients, understand how they feel to get in touch with them, only in this way the patient will trust us and will not be afraid. With children the character aspect and technique are crucial, children are afraid of everything, especially when approaching someone they do not know, in a place they do not know. The nurse must have kindness and care, first step to relieve any possible suffering; it must be attentive to the psychological sphere of the patient, fundamental part of recovery after the disease.. I think, and above all I hope to become a good nurse because coming into contact with the reality of the internship and the children I realized that is what I want to do for life and I want to be able to make a contribution and leave a mark in the lives of children. I think I become a good nurse because I do things carefully and scrupulously, I try to understand the child before any procedure is first of all I try to make myself loved, to make myself known so that they can trust. with an average life expectancy of 81.2 years. Many people on Okinawa reach an age of over 100 years and not only live longer but also live better.

So far studies claim that the secret of Okinawa is their lifestyle, genetics and especially their traditional diet consisting of soy, fruits and vegetables. They also consume large amounts of fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon, foods rich in omega-3 that reduces the risk of heart disease and breast cancer. They don’t eat red meat and their diet is fat-free. Another secret of this population is that they eat as long as they are 80% full and this helps to control the portions of meals.

In addition to food, movement is a key part; Okinawan elders often walk, do activities such as gardening, and usually work into old age. I am optimistic and above all very attached to religion, which gives them comfort and security.

The tutor I want to talk about is Virginia. She is a very good nurse, she can do anything and she explains it to you in the simplest way possible, with a language accessible to all, words understandable and in a calm and calm way. Giulia is a 4-year-old girl who has been in the ward for 7 months now suffering from a heart condition that forces her to wait for a heart transplant.

The first meeting took place during the second day in the ward, I followed her with my tutor and immediately a nice relationship was created; I remember that we had gone to the room because we had to put an agoula. Since she was a child, she was afraid of the hospital environment and especially the nurses, whatever you tried to do, she screamed and cried.

During that afternoon when we had to do this procedure to Giulia she was particularly nervous and from the beginning when we told her that we had to put the needle she began to cry and to call her mother.

She has always been a child with poor venous heritage so unfortunately we had to try 3 times; one thing that struck me and made me very excited was the fact that she could see that she was suffering from this procedure but she knew that she didn’t have to move otherwise she would have been hurt more, crying but not moving. At that moment I almost felt like crying, my eyes were shiny.

Later with Giulia has created a beautiful relationship, she loves me and I love her and especially she trusted and now she is not afraid.
