The first line of the poem is an example of paradox; "I heard a Fly buzz- when I died-" This line of the poem is contradictory to itself because she is saying how she can hear the buzzing of a fly, even after she is dead; even though when you die you cannot hear nor sense anything. In the second stanza, there is an example of personification. "The Eyes around - had wrung them dry -;" this quote is giving eyes the human ability to be wrung dry, showing us that so many tears have been cried that there are no more left to come. The final line of the poem, "I could not see to see-" is another example of paradox. The line from the poem is telling us that she had lost contact with the outside world and the person had finally died. The story of the poem is someone who is about to die being surrounded by their loved ones trying to have a peaceful death. However, the fly comes in and disrupts the memorable moment for everyone. The last stanza of the poem, "With Blue - uncertain -stumbling Buzz -Between the light - and me -And then the Windows failed - and then I could not see to see -" uses great imagery of how the person lying on their death bed saw the "light" and as they were about to pass, the fly came between them and the light. This fly could symbolize many different things based on how you interpret the text.
