This quote is talking about Esperanza's sense of safety and comfort around her family especially her mother. Esperanza feels comfort when she remembers all the time that she would hug and be held by her mother and the smell of her mothers hair that makes her "feel safe' as she describes it. This connects back to the idea of finding her true identity because she realizes that she feels safe around her mom which allows her to find the missing piece of who she feels safe around in her life.

This quote shows how Esperanza unlocked another part of her true identity which is that she is an unappreciated and lonely person. Esperanza believes that not coming home until later will make her feel more appreciated in her household which shows efforts to try to change her sense of feeling unappreciated even though it ended in tears because she was scolded.

This quote in the chapter Chancla's shows Esperanza's identity by showing how she is not confident in herself. Esperanza shows her lack of confidence in herself throughout the chapter but I chose this part because she describes her feet as "ugly" which is a strong word to use on yourself. A lack of confidence is part of Esperanzas identity and its something that she might work on throughout the book to achieve the goal of becoming the person she wants to become.

This quote is talking about how Esperanza and her great grandmother have the same name but how Esperanza doesn't want to live the life that her great grandmother lived. Esperanza's great grandmother didn't get to do much in her life because of Esperanza's great grand father who forced her to marry him. This led Esperanza's grand mother to be sad the rest of her life and sit by a window in sadness. While Esperanza has the same name as her grand mother she states that she doesn't want to "inherit her place by the window". This unlocks a new part of her indentity which is to become more succesful than her grand mother and to have a better life.
