Ed Simulations is a project-based tool that uses real-world simulations to get students ready for situations they might encounter in the world (Bogler, 2024). This helps them to builld skills that will help them navigate situations and problems they encounter in any aspect of their lives.

This tools supports project-based learning because it provides students with a safe, experiential environment to practice skills for decision-making, critical thinking, and resiliency and how they can apply those to real-world situations (Cadotte, 2024). Here they can also utilize collaboration, communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving. These hands-on, real-life simulations keep students engaged and allow them to learn about themselves and how they would handle situations.

Ed Simulations should be use during synchronous learning so that real-time feedback and discussions can be had. It is also beneficial that the teacher is with the students to supervise them during the simulation during a structured learning time.

An example of a project-based learning unit that can use simulations is the U.S. Judicial System. Simulations for a mock trial can be put into place, students will be assigned roles, and they will act out those roles based on the knowledge they have learned during the unit. They will also learn more along the way.

Simulations help to meet students ISTE Standards of Empowered Learner, Knowledge Constructor, Digital Citizen, and Innovative Designer. They encourage students to take be an active part in their learning as well as connect their learning to real-world situations and support ethical and safe use of technology, as well as creative thinking and problem solving (ISTE, 2024).

Google Work Space includes a variety of collaboration tools such as email, docs, sheets, and slides (Common Sense Media, n.d.). These features allow users to streamline communication, collaboration, and content creation.

Google Workspace supports project-based learning by providing students with a place for all of their project needs. Google Workspace allows students to create, collaborate, and communicate in meaningful and engaging ways that fit the needs of all students (Common Sense Media, n.d.).

Google Workspace is a great option for asynchronous learning because it provides many ways for students to share, create, and store their information so that their peers or group members can access it on their own time. It enables students to participate in collaborative learning and projects without the need for being in the same place at the same time or online at the same time.

An example of how project-based learning can happen through Google Workspace is having students collaborate to complete a Global Impact Study. This is when students research an environmental issue and how they can improve it. They collaborate and share their ideas through chat, google docs, or via video. They use the information shared to create a plan for how to reduce the negative effects of the issue.

Google Workspace can help student meet the following ISTE Standards: Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Innovative Designer, and Creative Communicator. It does this by providing tools that foster collaboration, communication, and digital literacy by providing a secure and accessible learning environment.

Zoom is a communication platform. It allows users to meet for live meetings via audio, video, or chat.

Zoom can support project-based learning by providing a platform for students to come together to discuss, plan, organize, and create projects together (Nichols, 2020). This can be facilitated by the teacher by dividing students into groups and assigning them break-out rooms to work together. Another option is to let students choose how they would like to collaborate with options such as chat, live video meeting, and screen sharing.

Zoom is best used during synchronous learning because it requires live meetings and the teacher to facilitate groupings and break-out rooms. Zoom works best when participants are able to come together to work together at the same time.

One example of PBL that could be facilitated through Zoom is creating a PSA Announcement. Student research a current issue in society and create a Public Service Announcement to make people aware of it. This fits well with Zoom due to its included audio and video features.

Zoom helps students to meet the following student ISTE Standards: Empowered Learner, Global Collaborator, Innovative Designer, and Digital Citizen. Zooms helps to meet these standards by allowing students to take an active role in their learning and work with peers and experts from around the world as well as help them to facilitate creative projects and collaboration and lets them practice doing so in a safe and ethical manner (ISTE, 2024).
