Collaboration- What I Think About It

In my second module for this class, playwriting + directing, I believe I embodied a good example of collaboration with my fellow group member. We accomplished writing a script of 2 monologues and 1 two-page dialogue scene. We started our project off by comparing monologues and combining them into one by deciding together what ideas we wanted to keep and which we were okay getting rid of. Then, we divided the rest of the work between us two- I was tasked with revising the first monologue and creating a second, and my partner wrote the dialogue scene. She was in charge of costumes and I was in charge of props. This was by far one of the easiest projects I have worked on because my collaborator and I effectively communicated with each other and equally divided the tasks.

Work Ethic- Inspiration

In my first Padlet I discussed how Taylor Swift is a big inspiration for me because of her work ethic and approach, and while I still do believe these things, my mom this semester has been my biggest inspiration. She fully illustrates what it is to be strong and persevere- her strength has encouraged me to keep working as best as I can these past few months. She had a health scare at the beginning of January and had to have abdominal surgery over spring break. Not once did I see her cower over the “what ifs” and worry about what her results may be. She continued working from home and practicing self-care, balancing equally her work and personal life. She has inspired me that even during the most trying times it is important to keep going, but that it’s okay to slow down and take care of yourself as well. During my trying times this semester, I thought of her and drew strength.

Aspiration & Goals- SM and Theatre Educator

My goals after graduation (which I don’t even like thinking about considering I’m supposed to graduate in only two years) have not changed, I still hope to become a professional stage manager and theatre educator for high schoolers. The tools and lessons I have gained from these modules have only further evoked in me that I have chosen the correct career path. In my design module, we explored the different mediums that can be used to communicate your work and discovered what works for me and what doesn’t. In playwrighting + directing we started each class with a conversation and stretching– easing ourselves into class instead of jumping in straight. This made the class feel less daunting and informal, which eased my anxiety since this was the class I had the least training in and thus most nervous. Finally, in the devising module, which I am still in, I have learned of numerous different exercises, like body imaging, that I can teach to my students and spark conversations in a fun and unique way.
