They were the only ones that could do a lot of things the kings couldn't do, until the kings became the rulers of the Sumerians. The kings caused a lot of wars and conflicts with other tribes. It was weird though because the kings were sent by the gods to control the city. It was really different for the Sumerians once the kings became the rulers of the whole Sumerian tribe.

The scribes made marks on tablets of wet clay to show their writing. At first they drew simple pictures to stand for different items. Then soon they developed a new writing system that could record far more than numbers of objects. Writing was really useful to set up schools to train scribes. Writing went from a small priority to a huge priority.
