Additionally, I have learned that Student Voice and Participation empower learners by allowing them to contribute to decision-making in their education, making learning more meaningful and personalized. These aspects highlight the importance of creating an inclusive and interactive learning environment where students feel valued and take ownership of their learning journey.

Q3) I want to learn more about measuring the impact of student-centered learning, specifically how to assess its effectiveness in improving student engagement, knowledge retention, and skill development compared to traditional methods. Additionally, I am interested in exploring strategies for implementing flexible learning, including how to design adaptable learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs, learning styles, and schedules while maintaining academic rigor.

1) What I already know about Student-Centered Learning (SCL)

Student-Centered Learning (SCL) shifts the focus from the teacher to the students, encouraging active participation, self-directed learning, and critical thinking. Instead of passively receiving knowledge, students engage in inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and collaborative discussions.

SCL promotes personalized learning, where instruction is tailored to individual students' needs, learning styles, and interests. This allows for differentiated instruction, where students learn at their own pace and receive guidance based on their level of understanding.

(2) What new knowledge I have discovered about SCL

Metacognition and self-regulation: Research highlights that student-centered learning enhances metacognition, meaning students develop the ability to reflect on their learning process, recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and take responsibility for their academic progress (Zimmerman, 2002).

The teacher as a facilitator, not a lecturer: The role of the teacher in SCL is not to directly deliver content but to guide, mentor, and support students in their learning journey. This is done through scaffolding, where teachers provide structured support initially and gradually reduce assistance as students become more independent.

(3) What I still want to learn about SCL

Effective assessment strategies in SCL: While SCL promotes active learning, I want to explore how assessment methods such as project-based learning, peer assessments, self-evaluations, and competency-based grading can effectively measure student engagement and deeper learning beyond traditional exams.

Technology integration in SCL: With the rise of AI, IoT, and gamification, I am interested in learning how these technologies can be integrated into student-centered learning environments to enhance interaction, engagement, and real-world application of knowledge.

Video:Student Centered Learning: Why, How, & Whathttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvzVAQkuSqU– This concise video provides a clear explanation of student-centered learning principles.

Student-centred learning (SCL) shifts the focus from teacher-led instruction to active student participation, fostering independence and critical thinking. SCL emphasizes engagement through interactive discussions and projects while allowing personalized learning at an individual’s pace. Today, I discovered how technology enhances SCL by making learning more flexible and engaging. I also learned that blended and online learning models offer greater accessibility, catering to diverse student needs. However, I'm still interested to explore how to balance flexibility with structured guidance to keep students motivated.

SCL, to me, is about shifting the focus from a traditional teacher-led approach to one where students are empowered to take an active role in their education. It's not just about transferring knowledge but creating an environment where students engage, question, and apply concepts meaningfully in ways. In engineering context, it's particularly vital as it fosters problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills essential for the real-world challenges students will face.

Active participation & practical application

I know that SCL encourages active participation, where students collaborate in group discussions, solve problems & share perspectives. I also recognize the emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. For engineering, this means projects, case studies or lab work that mirror industry demands.

Tailored the LUs & role of reflection

Through today’s interactions, I learned that student-centred learning can be customized to individual strengths, weaknesses, and interests using tools like adaptive technologies. I also discovered that encouraging students to reflect on their learning journey deepens their understanding and highlights areas for improvement.

Assessment methods & incorporating technology

I am curious about aligning assessments with student-centred learning to evaluate not just knowledge but also students' processes and critical thinking. Additionally, I want to explore using emerging technologies like augmented reality and AI to enhance the impact of SCL in engineering.

Q1. What i knew about SCL is that in SCL, students don’t just sit and listen during class. They get involved, ask questions, share ideas, and solve problems. By engaging, it helps them to understand better and feel more excited about learning.

Q2. Based on our class, I realize that not everyone learns the same way. SCL gives students a way to learn at their own speed and choose topics that they like. The lecturer will help them in finding information instead of just giving answers. Students in SCL also should work together in groups, talk about ideas, and do projects. This will helps them in learning how to solve problems, sharing ideas, and work in groups with others. All this are skills that the students will need to move forwards.

Q3. I hope that I can understand more about SCL as nowadays SCL is something that is slowly being implemented in our local university, such as micro-credential programme, if not mistaken.
