A screenshot of the campus parking app is shown. This image shows how Cal State LA limits the options for daily parking permits and only allows you to choose 4 or 8 hours. This affects the community because it forces students to pay more money or risk getting a ticket if they only want to park for the actual time they are on campus. This situation exists because the school is taking advantage of the students. To fix this we can offer more options so students only have to pay for the hours they need.

A screenshot of an advertisement on the campus parking app is shown. This image shows how Cal State LA is using a required platform to try and get students to spend money. This affects students because these pop-ups lead to ads where students can spend unnecessary money. This situation might exist because of companies wanting to advertise to students. To fix this we can get rid of ads or put links to resources instead.

This photo shows the concrete slab not aligned with the parking space in Structure C. Due to this, individuals are not provided with the accurate sense of space when their car is getting close to the wall. Individuals may even hit these concrete slabs, which may cause further issues to them and their car, for example, being late to class or events on campus or some damages to their vehicle. Students at Cal State LA should not have to think about the inconveniences that may be caused due to these concrete slabs not being aligned. We can voice this concern to the school to possibly provide funding and their support in fixing these concrete slabs so that students are provided with the accurate spacing that they need to park adequately throughout the day.

We see here in picture number one that there is minimal space for Motorcycle parking. This should be a concerning factor because if all the other available parking for motorcycle parking is taken, someone must park in the small space. It can cause drivers with sedan cars or SUVs to hit the motorcycle, damaging the vehicles involved. This affects the parking situation on campus because parking can be difficult to find, and there should be more available parking for motorcycles.

I think what can be done about it is that there should be more spaces in different sections of the parking lot for motorcycles. The issue that is shown here is whether this section of the motorcycle parking is full. The person driving the motorcycle must find another designated section for motorcycle parking. Something that can be done is that you could place more designated motorcycle sections throughout the parking lot so that there is more availability. This relates to daily commuters who use a motorcycle as a means of transportation to get to school. This would allow more parking to be available.

:In this picture we can see a broken parking permit booth, which eventually makes it hard for students who park on this floor to pay for their parking for the day. This picture was taken in section E on the 5th floor. This picture relates to us as students because it makes our life harder for us the students when we are in a rush and need to pay for our day permit. The concern about this is that some students may not know how to pay for their parking permit over the phone and they only know how to do it through the booth and with a broken booth this may require them to go to another floor which wastes more of their time and can potentially cause them to be late to class or even get a ticket. Something we can do to fix this issue is to fix the booth or change it for a new one that works and will be available for the students who park in the 5th floor in structure E.

This photo was taken in Parking Lot B. This photo addresses the issue of students only being able to park in this area after 5:00pm. What if a student is running late and has a class at 5:00pm and has arrived to campus at 4:45pm and cannot park at this parking lot which is the closest to their next class. Therefore, the student needs to park further out and be late to their class. This relates to my life because I find this unfair and inconvenient to my schedule as I cannot park at this parking lot when I have a class that is close to this parking lot. To resolve this issue, we can ask the university to allow students to park here at earlier times. This situation exists and is a concern because many students have classes earlier in the day and having the ability to park at this parking lot earlier in the day helps students have access to a parking lot closest to their class.

In this image , we see a parking permit booth stationed at the far end of the parking lot. What is happening here, is showing the lack of access to these booths in such a large spaced area. This is parking lot 5, right in front of LACHSA. This is relative to our lives here at Cal State LA as it showcases the inefficiency of these booths. They are located far apart from one another and sometimes not in service. Thus, creating the difficulty of accessing parking permits and resulting in parking violations. We can create online access to parking permits and/or add more booths.

We see a parking machine that shows the prices of the day in a parking lot C in Cal State LA university. What is really happening is that there are different prices in which you choose to pay a certain amount if you are parked during the day, however if you are staying in campus for less than one hour you still need to pay for four hours of parking gives no other choices rather than the ones seen. This relates to our lives because we pay for parking anywhere, we go but sometimes parking is free in other places. This situation is concerning because most students need to be paying for parking every single time they come to school, and the prices don’t seem to be high but if you come to school everyday it adds up to how much you are paying for parking on a weekly basis. What we can do about it is include more times, for example 30 min 1$ or 1 hour $2 etc. Giving the students more options in parking.

This area becomes congested with students who come from both sides of the campus (downstairs and upstairs) and are waiting to get picked up. However, this is not a loading/ride share area.

We can see the number 2139 in this image. The main floor/third floor of structure E is where this photo was taken. This is relevant to our lives since it might have an impact on us when we search for parking and none is available. There could be more than 2139 parking spaces and the number remains the same, but there could also be fewer than 2139 parking spaces and someone would be looking for parking and there would be no spots left. Because the number stated 2139, they might believe there were some available spots when there aren't any. This is why this situation is concerning. We may address that by hiring someone to keep an eye on the locations and check the number and adjust it, or simply leave it fixed so that it fluctuates when more or less spots become available.

This image depicts a street sign indicating the need for a parking permit. It highlights that Cal State LA's parking regulations extend beyond campus boundaries. This is relevant to students who may not purchase on-campus parking permits for personal reasons. Despite this choice, they may still incur parking expenses due to the requirement for licenses in surrounding areas. This situation likely exists due to the high demand for parking in the areas surrounding Cal State LA. The university may have implemented permitted parking in these areas to ensure that residents and local businesses have priority access to parking spaces. The school could potentially Expand on-campus parking options..

Usually there are lines of students trying to pay at the same time and causes delays for students to arrive to class on time. The only other way to pay is through your phone and some may not have access to a phone. It would be helpful to set up automatic parking paper ticket dispenser and have the option to pay for parking at the time of exiting.

What we see here is a picture of a parking permit of a semester for Cal State LA in parking lot C. What is really happening here is that we are looking at how much is a semester worth for those who have cars and come driving to school. This relates to our lives because as students we must pay this much every semester if we drive to school and is expensive. This situation is concerning because why if we are students instead of parking being free, they want us to pay for parking every semester and the price is high, what if we can’t afford to pay it what can we do then. What we can do about this is having students get affordable or free parking permits for the semester.

The parking spots that are close by to the ramp are not specifically for people with disabilities. This should be a concern for everyone because people with disabilities have to park far away from the ramp, making it difficult for them to make it over the small hill onto campus. To solve this problem, parking spaces for people with disabilities should be added near the ramp.

Often, drivers are speeding through these intersections, and it creates a hazard for other drivers as well as pedestrians walking to and from the parking lot. This issue creates distress to other individuals while getting to and from Cal State LA, and all people should feel safe entering and exiting the parking lots, whether while driving or walking. We can voice these concerns to the school and request that visible yield, and even stop signs also be posted on the walls along intersections like the one shown.

This area is very busy and people may get frustrated and get off and easily move the orange cones, or even if they run over the cons will not be in a straight line. This issue can be a hazard if cons are ever moved because people may try and go right or go the wrong way. This scarcity creates several issues in our daily lives, such as difficulty finding parking, potential tardiness or missed classes, and the financial burden of seeking off-campus parking. This situation likely arises from a combination of factors, including high enrollment, limited space for expansion, and increased car ownership. While challenging, advocating for expanded parking facilities could be one potential solution to alleviate these issues.

The person is parked illegally, and the security or parking enforcement have to come by and make them move. This can cause traffic backups in the small pick-up/drop-off area and cause issues for others that are trying to get in or out. This issue exists because individuals park where they are not supposed to. To fix this situation we can put signs up that say to not exceed a certain time of waiting or parking in the pick-up/drop off area or have a person directing traffic during busy hours.

Individuals that are parking in the small drop-off area sometimes block the entrance or they park their car and get out. When people park their car to go into a building or get out to wait for someone it causes the line to build up and the other cars have to be parked farther down. This can cause difficulty for handicapped individuals that can’t have their vehicle stop in the designated place. What we can do to solve this problem is to have parking enforcement come more frequently to make sure people aren’t parked inside the pick-up/drop-off area and encourage them to drive around and come back if the person they are waiting for is not out yet.

For this reason, it is important to address this issue and take it in account the creation of more bicycle areas all around campus which do not take up a lot of space and can be very helpful for students who use bicycles or motorcycles as transportation to school.

This image shows a screenshot of the CSULA parking app “PayByPhone” To park on campus students must pay for a permit on the app or at a meter at a parking structure. The app displays rates for one hour and two hour parking both set at $4.40. This affects our lives as anyone parking on campus must pay for parking and the cost of a semester parking permit is pricey making it impractical for those who don’t have class daily. These students prefer to pay for a daily parking permit instead. However, having the same rate for every option seems unfair. A student attending a one hour class has to pay the same as someone parking for four hours. A solution could be to offer more flexible parking options such as offering permits each with their own rate or lowering the rate for the semester permit. This solution would provide fair pricing on parking time and make it more accessible.

This picture is a screenshot from the Cal State LA parking and transportation website. This picture demonstrates the high cost of the Cal State LA parking permit, which is $110.00 per semester, with a required parking occupancy tax. Additionally, if students choose the 30-day permit, there is a $55.00 base fee with the required 10% parking occupancy tax imposed by the City of Los Angeles, bringing the total to $60.50. In contrast, community colleges like Mt. San Antonio College offer a more affordable permit rate for the semester, requiring students to pay only $55.00. This issue relates to Cal State LA students because it causes them to pay a high expense to park at school, limiting their affordability to pay for other necessities. This issue also significantly impacts low-income students, forcing them to make difficult financial decisions, such as working more hours or taking on additional debt to cover parking costs. This issue can be addressed by organizing a student-faculty meeting to advocate or negotiate for reduced parking permit rates that are affordable for all students. Another approach is advocating for Cal State LA to offer the option to pay their permits monthly instead of the total amount upfront.

This picture demonstrates how Cal State LA does not provide designated visitor parking areas that offer free short-term parking, which community colleges like Mt. San Antonio provide. Instead, visitors must purchase a one-day or an event parking permit for $10, including the 10% parking occupancy tax. This issue relates to students', faculty, and family members' lives because it limits accessibility for visitors who may want to quickly drop off or pick up students, attend meetings, or participate in events. This parking issue poses a concern because the lack of free parking makes it costly for family members, faculty, and students to visit campus briefly, adding an unnecessary expense and inconvenience.
Full Parking... "Parking Permit ONLY" parking (Structure E)

This photograph shows a packed parking lot full of student vehicles in Calstate LA. However, what is not shown is that each one of these cars was required to pay a parking permit worth around $250 per semester or daily passes almost exceeding more than $10 a day. This was taken in the Structure E lot, but regulations apply to every lot around campus (A-E). The connection between this photo and our lives as students is that we are forced to comply with these rules for the sake of not being punished for failed payments. Concerns begin to arise when students are told to pay permits to park on campus and then attend courses that they are also paying for. If completely terminating permits for students and staff attending the university is not possible, suggesting a more inexpensive fee for permits and daily passes would be greatly appreciated.

This photograph shows us a pretty empty top parking floor, with a row of empty, clean air and EV parking closest to the elevator and stairs. However, notice that the parking structure still has some students parked on top of the structure. I want to clarify that this parking structure still requires students to pay for a parking permit or pass to avoid being ticketed or towed (Structure E). We no longer have to just worry about paying our permits, but we must take into consideration potential citations for parking in spots that were “not intended” for gas-combustible engines. This dilemma relates to student life because we have no say in these potential consequences if we make a mistake in the future. Concerns begin to exist from this factor because, now, we are required to make sure we do not make a mistake as simple as parking in the wrong spot of an empty structure. Let alone a parking structure we are paying high prices every semester for just to avoid getting additional tickets. If we are required to pay for permits, then the spots labeled Clean Air/EV should go away to give every permit holder a fair chance to have access to closer parking spots as well.

The first picture shows a parking lot at Cal State. La, it’s the fourth floor of the structure, A and it’s showing that the building structure is still really full where people are still trying to find parking. This is relevant to our lives because even though we have parking permits, people are still struggling to find parking structures, making them late for their classes. This raises concern because a lot of people have to go around in circles, looking for parking just to get to class, and sometimes they end up being late to classes because they couldn’t find parking. Ways that they can solve this are by advertising the other buildings; if some people don’t know exactly where or how to get there, they won’t know where other parking places are. The university can help people find other parking for students.

In this picture, we can see the amount that Cal State LA students pay for a semester of parking. This is a parking pass that a student pays for just parking in a structure that doesn't have a guarantee spot. You still have to look for parking when coming to campus. It relates to our lives because 1000s of college students are paying over 200 dollars just for being able to park on campus. This is a concern because not everyone can afford this parking pass, and when they can, they still need to look for parking, which makes them late even if they get there on time. Things the school can do is lower the price for the parking pass as they increased it by 10% .

This screenshot is the parking regulations on the campus website. The highlighted part states, “Purchase of a permit does NOT guarantee a parking space at any given time on campus.” This is disappointing because parking permits are very expensive and it does not guarantee a parking space. Students feel frustrated because they do not have the finances to pay for a permit. This can cause the student and staff to be late to class or not show up. To solve this problem, the electric vehicle parking spaces should be removed because an unnecessary amount is empty most of the time. The cost of the parking permits should also be lower.

For the first picture we see a receipt of a parking daily pass located on 4129 parking lot at Cal State LA. What’s happening is that we see that some students pay by phone for a daily pass and pay more through this paying method. In the picture you see it costs $9.05 for one day but when you go to the cal state la permit page it says $8.80. This relates to our lives because many students are paying more throughout the semester through this paying method and it’s a problem because many students sometimes don’t carry cash or they’re physical credit cards to pay on the booth so they pay through “paybyphone”. Something we can do is adding another paying method onto the paying booths to avoid unnecessary fees through these different payment methods. Adding “apple pay”

This affects many students attending college because the majority might not have the money to be able to afford $220 every semester which then impacts students with no permits and they sometimes get unnecessary tickets because either they’re daily passes expire after 4 minutes and they get a ticket of $70. I think what we could do is lowering the prices of every semester.

This image highlights safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians in the parking lot. The dim lighting makes visibility difficult, increasing the risk of accidents as vehicles move in and out of parking spots. When drivers ignore the 5 mph speed limit and "zoom" through, it raises the chance of collisions with cars trying to exit their spots or pedestrians walking to and from their vehicles. This photo show the importance of creating safer, well-lit, and more controlled environments to ensure that everyone can navigate the parking lot without fear of accidents or unsafe conditions. It calls for improved lighting, better enforcement of speed limits, and measures to make this shared space safer for all.
