My name is Ankur, and I'm one of the module tutors. I'm an infectious diseases physician, and a clinical lecturer at UCL/LSHTM. My HIV experience comes through clinical work and research in sub-Saharan Africa, including Malawi, South Africa and Uganda. My research interest is HIV-associated TB, including improving outcomes in hospitalised patients, and using diagnostics to improve health outcomes. My name is Rashida and I am a tutor on this module. I am an HIV physician and an epidemiologist and I am a professor at LSHTM but I live in Zimbabwe where I run a research programme focusing on HIV infection in young people. I work on strategies to improve uptake of HIV testing, retention in care and virological outcomes, as well as on longterm clinical complications  of HIV in children growing up with perinatally-acquired HIV (lung , heart, musculoskeletal disease). 

I am particularly interested in integrated community-based approaches for delivering, HIV, SRH and general health services to youth. 

I do also work in other parts of sub-Saharan Africa. In 2019 (and then subsequently), I worked on an extensive outbreak of paediatric HIV in Pakistan-which has a very different epidemic from that in Africa

I enjoy hiking and try and do an annual trip to the Himalayas in Pakistan (which is where I am originally from). Below is a view on my my recent jaunt in northern Pakistan.

I am Brazilian but I've been living in Canada for the past 7 years! I currently work with two non-profits as a research assistant and project manager consultant. I work with Female Genital Schistosomiasis, a very neglected disease. We are particularly interested in the increase risk of HIV and HPV that girls with FGS face when they go undiagnosed for so long. 

My undergrad was in biomedical science where I took 2 courses on virology and advanced virology because I was always a big fan of it!

I currently work as a Consultant in Paediatric HIV and Telemedicine at the Paediatric Centre of Excellence for HIV Care at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital at Sion Mumbai.

I hope to learn more about HIV in this module to add to my existing knowledge. I also plan to study HIV and TB Co-infection more closely.

I am currently living and working in the Washington DC/Maryland metropolitan area and I am currently a Research Officer at an AIDS Foundation. My current research study is focused around the COVID-19 Pandemic in Kenya, Cameroon and Zimbabwe, particularly on integrating testing and other COVID-related services into MNCH, HIV, and TB high risk clinic populations. 

My undergrad experience is in International Health and French and I have previously taken an HIV course. My hope for this course is to dive deeper into HIV and learn more of the intricacies of the different variants, research on treatments, cures, etc. and hopefully transfer this knowledge to my current work!
