Inhospitable (a short story - from the archives)

The sun beat mercilessly down on me. I trudged over the despicable terrain, splinters of jagged rocks and thorny prickles attacking my every step. All I could think of was water. Cool refreshing water. I need water! My throat was dry, my lips were parched, and my eyes were stinging from from the salty sweat that poured from my forehead. At last I staggered into the shade of a small grove of trees that stood in the barren wasteland, their leaves providing a refreshing reprieve from the relentless sun, and their branches a cradle of rest for my weary bones. I gazed with dismay at the muddy sludge at the base of the trees, once a part of the mighty Amazon river. We think we can terraform distant planets, and yet we cannot save a beautiful rainforest. I cried, and the trees wept.

Quantum entanglement between the mind and the brain

The subconscious brain can't distinguish between something real and a thought. Beware your thoughts - they create your reality.

Question - when it comes to ones identity, does the conflict between the reality and the desires, over an extended period of time, eventually create a separation between the mind and the brain, causing depression, which in essence is the mind mourning the loss of connection with itself?

Random thoughts on the mind and the brain

A photon of light behaves as a wave until it's observed, at which time it behaves as a particle. Both the observed and the observer affect the behaviour of each other. In a similar vein, the mind and the brain are observers of each other, and affect each other's behaviour.

The right brain behaves as a particle - focused on the task at hand. The left brain behaves as a wave - meandering and wandering everywhere at once in an ethereal and creative wonderland.
