Kids loved it! It was engaging for all levels of students. They worked as teams and it was different than the typical explicit teaching styles that they are used to. The movement and vertical boards increased the motivation and collaboration with students around. Class dojo helps with randomized groups making it quick and easy. Only challenges are space, lack of available boards, and time.

Kids are liking moving around and working together. Using classdojo to randomize groups. Have been trying do use them once a week. Takes a good chunk of time and not enough boards/ space.

I've tried it twice with my students, and they've really enjoyed learning from each other and sharing ideas. Good collaboration opportunity! Once, I had them write their own word problems to represent addition or subtraction problem within 20. Another time, I had them "build" numbers using addition/subtraction facts. I gave each group a different number, and they brainstormed. I'm planning to continue and do it once weekly.

Random grouping isn't quite effective yet. Students are still building confidence in math, so they are not always willing to share out and risk being wrong. I think with continued practice they will be more willing to engage during these activities.
