It has a unique appearance and and is distinguished from all other forms of pottery because of the dough used in the craft. Blue pottery is the only pottery in the world which does not use clay.

DESIGN
The designs on the products of blue pottery are floral patterns, bird and animal motifs. Further, there are artisans who have their own speciality with the designs, the place I visited there the speciality were designs which had mixing of colours and water colour effect which is very difficult to achieve as the raw product absorbs colours very fast. The designs are also inspired by architecture and miniature paintings of Rajasthan.

PERCIEVED VALUE
People are not aware of the hard work that is required to come up with one small article of blue pottery. Ceramics which appear to be very similar to blue pottery is cheaper therefore not knowing the real value they feel that this craft is expensive. Only a person who has deep knowledge about blue pottery can identify the original product. The vase below is a ceramic but is it very difficult to distinguish.

MARKET
Foreign market is a large market for blue pottery as for them this craft is very unique. The Indians now a days are also understanding the essence of this craft. Earlier majorly the manufacturers depended upon exporters but now the ratio of Indian and foreign market is 50:50.

PACKAGING
The packaging of blue pottery is a very important part. As it is fragile, any blue pottery product is packed with several layers like in newspaper, bubble wrap, cardboard box. This is important as there are high chances of the product getting destroyed during transportation.

The craft of blue pottery is in danger as its substitutes like ceramics are taking over the market. A major reason behind this takeover is the price. The people are not aware about the details of the craft and there overlook its essence over price. The value of crafts is decreasing in the Indian market day by day as cheaper products with the same finish are now readily available in the market.
The handicrafts involve complete manual power to be manufactured, the people performing this activity are also decreasing as the technology is moving forward as such a fast pace the process of craft which are slow are no loner preferred.
Even though the value is not as much it used to be but few people still appreciate the uniqueness of the handcrafted products and are keeping this market alive.
