Hello there, my name is Piero and I teach french in a secondary school in south Italy. Every day I experience the importance of dealing with students as well as with their parents. It is a great priority to have parents involved in the learning process, when we teachers face problems with the students it is important to have parents involved in the effort to overcome troubles and misunderstoods. Parents can also collaborate in the learning process actively by proposing or creating strategy to help teachers to improve their didactic approach to students. Hope to learn new strategies through the exchange of views with my peers. Any idea or suggestion is highly welcome.

I teach in a professional school and my students often come from a disadvantaged background so it is hard to get to communicate with their parents as they are kinda absent from their kids' life. I do not have many chances to see them but when I need to talk to them I prefer making a telephone call or using the electronic register which gives the opportunity of letting parents know what's going on in the class.

I have often tried to communicate toparents with different socio-economic-cultural-language background and the best move has always been keeping a low profile with them using a simple language repeating several times the issues being faced. I remember talking to Arab parents of a female students with completely differents socio and cultural background, all the issues related to daily school routine were made simple to let them be a part of the new school system, this way they felt ready to cooperate with me and with the other colleagues in order to actively partecipate in their daughter learning success

Collaborating with parents is the best way for us teachers to face daily challenges with students and school in general. I always try to get parents involved in the learning process of their kids, they can do so much to make every step of the way easier and fruitful. At the beginning of the school year I like to meet them to show them which are the goals set for their kids to achieve, I also invite them to come over to school to talk about their jobs especially because teaching in a professional school students can relate to such important issues seeing them in perspective when theywill be done with high school education and active in a working scenario. Some parents who work as culinary chefs in five stars restaurants have often given a vivid account of their daily efforts as top chefs preparing not just meals but real work of art. Students are always interested in such real life tales and establish themselves goals to achieve in their future life.

Teaching in a professional cooking school is a daily exploration and discovery, students are engaged in so many practical activities which are periodically shown to their parents during fairs, meetings or exibithions. Last year a huge musical about the Cafè Chantant was set up by our students and all parents were invited to see the show in the school theatre. The show was a great success and parents congratulated teachers and students for their commitment. Cooking competitions are also held by the school where students compete among
themselves to create the best dish to savour
right in front of an audience made up of parents.

They blame it on the teacher when their kids are not attentive and do not follow the classroom rules.
