Later he got enrolled into the University of Virginia and wrote a pamphlet of youthful Byronic poems called Tamerlane and Other Poems, but he left a year later and went to the military and joined the army under the name Edgar A. Perry  but on the death of his foster mother he his foster father John Allen purchased Edgar's release from the army and got Edgar an appointment to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. But before going he published a set of poems at Baltimore, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems. And for all that he was absent from all the drills and classes and left for New York City were a wrote volumes of poems, containing several masterpieces, that influenced many poem writers of the future. Then he returned to Baltimore and started writing stories, and in 1833 his story "MS. Found in a Bottle" won about like $50 which at the time I think was worth more then now from Baltimore weekly, and later left to Richmond as an editor for the Southern Literary Messenger. and made his name as a critical reviewer, and married his young cousin and I mean young as she was half his age at the time 13 years younger than Poe. On the other hand it is heard that he was a good husband and nephew/son-in-law. And later Poe was kicked out of his job and it is said he was kicked for drinking and ran to New York and later ran to Philadelphia wrote Poe's Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque and left his book publisher and came back to make a successor to his tales, Graham's Lady's and Gentleman's Magazine, in which, in where he but "The Murders in the Rue Morgue"- the first detective story which the "Gold Bug" (a place that rates books) gave him a cash price of $100 dollars. After this he ran to New York, wrote "The Balloon Hoax"  for the Sun, (a book publisher) and became a subeditor of the New York Mirror under N.P. Willis, who became a lifelong friend of Poe and by this he made his most famous poem "The Raven" which made him famous and became the editor of the Broadway Journal after this his wife, Virginia died which brought into a depression that he never got out of. After this he went to make "Eureka" a "transcendental""explanation" of the universe, which has been hailed as a masterpiece by some critics and crazy person talk by others he went to the south, went crazy in Pennsylvania, and got to Richmond where he married to Elmira Royster. after this he went on a speaking tour to fund raise his new literary magazine and he was supposed to go on a ferry to Baltimore then Maryland and lastly New York but the night before the trip he went to the doctor because he had a fever. The next few days are not known what happened but he wasn't in New York but in a tavern in Baltimore with clothing that was too small for him and when put into the hospital he died a few days later. In the end giving all of his works to his mortal enemy which in the effort to make Poe look published all of them and also wrote a biography about Poe in bad taste, and instead of making people think bad about a dead person he just made Poe more famous and if that is not POEitic justice I don't know what is.
