Changes Needed to Reduce the CVD Burden by Rosa Gissel Valdivia Reyes

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the biggest global burden that affects millions of people. Fortunately there are steps both the public and policymakers can take to help reduce this burden. My concept map focuses on the different social and public policy changes that can be made to help improve CVD. Implementing these changes might help CVDs soon reach eradication. #thefuture_conceptmap10.

For years cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the leading cause of deaths globally. It affects people from all regions regardless of income. In order for CVD to reduce and be closer to reaching eradication there needs to be changes in human behavior as well as public policy. Some of these changes include promoting healthier lifestyles and creating policies that will make medical care more accessible.

The article explains how CVD is America's leading cause of death and how the prevalence and deaths of CVD will increase substantially over the next 20 years. However, they highlight how these predictions don't have to become reality if the US healthcare system implements strategies and policies that can help prevent CVD in Americans. Some of these strategies include promoting diets that have a low-sodium intake, expanding affordable healthcare coverage, eliminating artificial trans fat, promoting physical activities especially in children, greater tobacco control, etc. If implemented, the US could see a reduction in CVD cases and if the strategies continue improving CVD could be eradicated.

The article focused on research for the implementation of CVD risk scoring. Their research found that implementing a CVD risk indicators could help develop clinical prediction models, build data resources for disadvantaged communities, etc. They explain that there would also be some challenges in this development such as that there's no established national registries for CVD and most importantly there's not enough collaborations between government and science/health agencies. This article highlights how CVD can only be eradicated if different stakeholders collaborate to create and deliver CVD response plans.
