Neutrons and protons are in the center of the atom called the nucleus. Electrons are in 'fields' around the nucleus. The majority of the atom is empty space
A balanced atom has an equal amount of protons and electrons. An unequal amount results in ions.
Neutrons and protons have weights of ~1amu, however neutrons are a negligible amount heavier. Electrons have next to weight in relation to neutrons and protons. 
The particles that compose neutrons and protons are held together by gluons, the 'building blocks' are quarks,
