This is the anchor text for this text set. I sure wish there was a book like this when I was a kid. Both my brother and I have 'travelin' eyes'. This has always been a point of shame for me, even now. This book is a true story about a young girl and her experience with her 'lazy eye'. With the help of her creative mother and wacky eye doctor she comes to terms with the thing that makes her different and triumphs!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht2GCh7d6mI

by Nadia Wheatley
Teacher led read aloud.
What makes Luke different is not his physical appearance but how he interprets the physical world. He sees things in an unique way. The illustrator does a wonderful job of showing this to his readers through his illustrations.. The way Luke sees the world is manifested through his artwork. His art teacher wants him to represent the world in a realistic fashion. Luke is unable to do this, he must infuse color into his paintings as that is how he sees the world. This brings us to the central conflict of this story. The way in which Luke carries out his assignments infuriates his teacher. Luke can no longer suffer under his instructor's abuse and this leads him to play hooky. He ends up at the art museum where he discovers others that see the world the same as him. This discovery leads him to self acceptance and this is shown through the illustrations. This is a wonderful book that helps student acknowledge and accept their unique way to 'see' the world.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1143637.Luke_s_Way_of_Looking
