This corruption in turn makes the city worst, but also more lucrative. Thus this is the vicious cycle of moral degradation portrayed in the novel. Both advises Rastignac receives to turn his fortune around, are based on either legal or moral corruption. So we see that the only way one can succeed in Parisian society is by surrendering to this vicious cycle.

We can mention two types of corruption basically moral corruption and legal corruption. Rastignac is the character in the text who suffers from both this corruption advises. His cousin Vicomtesse advise moral corruption to him. She instructs him to get into a relation with one of Goriot's daughter, Mme. Delphine de Nucingen inorder to get her wealth and ultimately gain success. Whereas the cruel character Vautrin, advise Rastignac to undertake a murder by killing Mlle.Victorine's brother, which ultimately becomes the legal corruption. From these we could actually see how the people Paris are treated like tools. They are used as tools to win success, as with success comes power and wealth. Money and material aspects have always been and integral part of humans in Paris this aspect has been highlighted and people are shown to have discarded morality for them like the two daughters of old Goriet who basically need their own father for merely the financial support that he provided them, even though he had sacrificed all of his fortune for thier well being they treat him inconsiderably. Women in Paris who did not inherit any kind of fortune were to climb the social ladder through the means of marriage. Brothers conspired against their sisters to deprive them of their inheritance and own it all themselves. Paris due to the effect of the past events of atrocities and violent things had normalised the violent behaviour among people, most had some disturbing history. People who came to Paris with a good heart also get caught in the same environment of it and turn corrupt and immoral.

Whether with description of Paris, people, mostly the characters in the novel, de Balzac makes commentary on social and political conditions of Paris. Social condition of a person plays important role here. One with social status try to climb the ladder of hierarchy by various means. It is portrayed in novel that how innocent people like Rastignac are dragged into the path of corruption. https://padlet.com/anjalimascarenhas1/z83ppp5cazklk5cu/wish/2465712766 de Balzac makes subsequent effort to project that in Paris corruption is an important factor which changes personality of a character. This is furthermore explained with advices received by Rastignac from his cousin Vicomtesse and a rude boarder Vautrin. Vicomtesse give idea to Rastignac of how things work in Paris. And a more easy way to get rich is that to get involved with rich woman of town. By this she means not to make emotional attachment to woman but use her to increase one's wealth and become rich. The medium Vicomtesse suggest is to use people as a tool get power and wealthy. She offers him moral corruption. While on the other hand Vautrin's plan is clearly a legal corruption. He is of the opinion that in the process of becoming rich one should get their hands into the mud and get them dirty. His plan is not really for Rastignac's benifit but himself too. 
This is what corruption do to people, make them immoral and inhuman.

This relates to the term of Naturalism, where a place or social environment does affect us. The example for lifestyle would be Vicomtesse advice to Rastignac for having a good position by marrying someone rich. 
People can be really fake with others, they can pretend to be your good mate and turn against you or get you in trouble for example, the character of Vautrin. Such people can study an innocent person very well and manipulate them into doing the wrong things. 
In the novel the characters show alot of corruption which also relate to the Paris governance and culture.

As wealth comes with sucess most of the young minds are tempted to gain ambition through corrupt ways leading to moral decline and at times even to illegal activities that are considered to be legal to achieve once gains for ambition. Like Rastignac who comes  from a hardworking background steps into Vicomtesse advices and Vautrins twisted plans that make Rastignac a tool and a pawn at thier hands for his own ambitious rise.

Rastignac first enters as an uncorrupted, poor boy, very dedicated to his studies but later gets distracted along the way, and climbs the social ladder as money determines status which determines success. His character changes as he is infused with corrupt ideas. 
So we see that Paris inspires ambition which inspires corruption and this is the triangle. Vautrin plays with Rastignac's poverty and invokes his ambition and exploits him. 
Rastignac is been exploited/corrupted both morally and legally by Vicomtesse and Vautrin.

The poverty was so ridden that people became morally corrupt to climb on the social ladder.
