Identify Influences on Goal-setting systems

.Potential commitment/ opportunities for practice is assessed before setting goals
.Working on practice goals for a long time are pointless if an athlete is unable to have the commitment to do them on their own
.It is more effective if the athlete can achieve their goals during practice as both commitment is more likely due to the discipline of the coach
. As a result, the athlete may then become committed enough to work towards goals, effectively, on their own

A formal meeting serious or brief which can be scheduled before practice or class. The aim is that coach and athlete can identify examples of effective and ineffective goals

Focusing on a goal at a time
Unless the athlete has had experience in setting goals it is ideal to set one goal at a time. The athlete is then able to give maximal effort in achieving the goal by adopting realistic strategies for achieving it.

Third stage: implementation and goal follow up evaluation

Provide support and encouragement:
The coach should ask participants about their goals and encourage their goal progress. Showing enthusiasm about the goal setting process and keep them motivated to fulfil their goals.
Plan for goal reevaluation:
Sometimes goals that have been set don't work out E.g. A tennis player who sets a goal to hit 40% of his first serves in, but he discovers that with practice he has little trouble hitting 50% of his first serves in. This means his goal must be modified in order to challenge him.
Identify appropriate goal evaluation procedures:
This is the most neglected stage. Coaches should identify the most effective system, managing goal evaluation and follow up. Many coaches streamline the evaluation process by having managers keep and post practice against statistics related to player goals.
