From this booklet, information is collated and then sent to the student's case manager at their base school. This usually takes the form of a transition statement. Hospital classroom teachers rely on the school case manager to disseminate this information to the student's teachers.

The short answer... you can't. Students are referred to QCHS through the health system. Young people, or siblings of young people, must be receiving treatment in a health facility or program. From this, health and education decide if the young person is eligible for a school service during treatment.

Why do teachers need to provide work to students while they're in treatment or away from school?

The primary concern of young people receiving any health treatment is to reconnect with their peers. Research suggests that keeping young people connected to people and elements of their 'real life' contribute to a more successful recovery. Maintaining elements of 'normalcy' as well as a connection to places and people helps students to focus on the goal of recovery. This is why teachers at the hospital school will ask teachers to send work, email, letters or whatever the family have requested for students who are absent from school.
