It is important to comprise and give up a part of who you are to be in a relationship. The reason is that you can find your true self once you lose some parts of it. There are also possibilities of when you lose a part of you that is major for yourself and your personality. This all depends on what part of yourself that you lose. Having a trait is very important to realize who you really are and if you lose that you would not be who you are.

🫴🏿🫘

Giving up a part of who you are isn't exactly what a relationship is about but it is something you do in a lot in relationships. Normally in relationships a side might have something that the other side is not ok with and doesn't like. It is almost like self sacrifice when you sacrifice a part of yourself for someone or something. Changing yourself for someone isn't a bad thing per say but giving up something that you enjoy or something you have been doing for years and almost sort of defines you for someone isn't a good thing. In those types of scenarios is it not a equal relationship because you should have to give up a part of your self for someone and they shouldn't have to either.

I believe that compromise and giving up a part of who we are is not a necessary part of a relationship mainly because when you are in relationship with someone who loves you for real, you’re partner would not want you to change anything about yourself because in a relationship that has meaning, you like someone for the way they are. However, in some cases it is acceptable. like your partner wanting to change negative things about you like bad habits or disrespectful things means your partner only wants you to better yourself. no to necessarily change. -Victoria S.

Giving up a part of who you are is done in many relationships but isn't always a good thing. If you give up a bad habit for a significant other then that would be fine. For example someone significant other has a habit of using their phone while talking and they don't like that. That would be something worth compromising on or giving up. If you have to give up a personality trait for someone for your relationship then that's when it becomes a bad thing. your partner should accept who you are as a person and if they want to change who you are then that isn't okay.

I believe compromising is an important part of what makes a relationship a relationship, and it goes back to the statement “no one can be perfect” which means there’s going to be something you’re not going to particularly like about a person which may not live up to your ideal standards, leading you to compromise because even so you still love them as much as you’d love that ideal person. Another perspective could be trying to tweak your imperfections or completely stop doing certain things for the sake of not pushing away that one person you cherish, for example: doing drugs, taking life endangering risks, gambling or any type of unhealthy addiction in general. -Tavion

Not everyone is perfect. Some people have bad habits that their partner may not like and would want to change. In a relationship, you work towards the betterment of each other and also help your partner be a better version of themselves. I think that it is somewhat necessary to give up a part of who you are because it is a factor needed for the growth and health of a relationship. One example of how we see this in our world is when couples agree to go to therapy/counseling together to discuss their relationship. By keeping an open mind, they uplift each other and make each other better people.

I don’t think giving up a part of who we are is necessary in a relationship but it surely can be. You could still be yourself and that could be a reason why your partner has fallen in love with you. But if it came down to you giving up a part of yourself the only thing you would give up to be with that person is maybe how you act. Around your friends you can be known as pretty obnoxious and always telling toxic jokes or whatever the reason that makes people feel uncomfortable. Now if you see the girl/boy you want you would have to change the way you are because they might not be into that sort of thing especially if they’re the sensitive type which isn’t going to end well for both of you. So personally I think it goes both ways making it 50/50. I don’t think it should be a reason why you should change who you are though because you are going to lose the thing that has made you into who you are today.

Everyone has bad ways, which means there's going to be bad days. Compromise isn't something anyone enjoys, yet it's an unavoidable element of any relationship. It may be a great thing when we change our wishes and expectations to help the partnership progress. In a relationship, it is not necessary of giving up a part of who we are, but there should be compromise. You need compromise in a relationship because you won't be able to make yourself and the person you're with, happy in any relationship. Compromising should be a two-way path in a relationship since it allows you to ignore a disagreement and create a healthier environment. There are benefits and drawbacks to compromising. It is unquestionably an important aspect of any relationship. It is vital to give up a part of yourself because if you have or had any bad habits and bring them into the relationship, it may end badly.

I believe that compromise should be shown but not in a forcing way like if someone doesn't wanna change and you're trying to help them then don't force them. They're simply just not the one for you I know it could be hard and u miss all the moments but there is someone better out there for you. you could only help in a certain way people have to that mind set to know what better for them and if they can't take your advice and your trying then you need to find someone else to make it work. _Nichollas G

In order to maintain a healthy relationship, a person must acknowledge the differences between themselves and their partner and come up with a solution that will satisfy both of their values and beliefs.
