1. Checks & balances between the executive (President), legislature (Congress) & judiciary (Supreme Court) so no single branch can become too powerful.

2. Individual rights are very important and are protected to include the right to free speech, free assembly, freedom of movement, a free press and controversially the right to bear arms. Rights are guaranteed by a Bill of Rights (1791).

3. The role of government is limited (i.e. 'that government is best which governs least' (Thomas Jefferson).

This flag is intended to be a source of inspiration and pride for the nation. The white on the flag signifies purity and innocence; red, hardiness and valour, and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

The National Anthem - America's Anthem's lyrics mention pride and freedom often, this are core values of the country and are constantly reinstated through various symbols to emphasise the growth made after the years of slavery.

Uncle Sam - Uncle Sam is a cartoon created to represent the American government and he was originally drawn to encourage American men to enlist into the military to fight in the First World War. Sam was seen wearing the American Flag on his clothing and he became a friendly face for younger faces as well.

The Statue of Liberty - The meaning of Liberty is to be free from oppressive or unfair restrictions, this refers to the Slavery Era in America.  2.  Land of the free is an attractive idea with more advanced technological and economic systems than most places around the world.

3.  Another pull factor for people to come into America is better educational opportunities with better chances for education in schools and universities with better facilities.

Push Factors of population growth 
1. One of the main push factors in America in 1850 is slavery as people who where discriminated against would leave the country.

2. The civil war and other wars is a push factor with people not feeling safe and wanting to flee to a safer place.

    American ideals can be found all throughout American literature and most importantly in the words of the founding fathers. American ideals are equality, rights, liberty, opportunity and democracy. most of these ideals stem from the so called American dream. Independence is valued, USA is the land of opportunity, all people are equal and anyone can be successful with hard work and determination.

    Why did the colonies leave Britain?
    The people living in the colonies felt the need to leave Britain due to certain people being unhappy about the way things were being run and how they were being treated. They felt unhappy about having to pay taxes whilst also have very little say in how their country was governed. Many felt trapped by Britain and their ideals. The fact that they didn’t have self government and still had unfair taxes is what led to America leaving Britain.

    What historical events had the biggest impact on American ideals?
    The declaration of independence was the major political event that shaped American ideals. The founding fathers ideals are still very prominent today. The declaration of independence was a massive event as it was the separation of America from Britain and then start of the America, the colonies had rebelled against Britain to achieve. The founding fathers spoke of, in the declaration of independence, about all men being created equal, life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. these ideals are still being sought after today. most political disagreements still, even in the modern day, come back to the ideals that the founding fathers set
