The Persians wanted to rule Greece but Athens would not allow it.King Darius, ruler of Persia became very angry and was going to battle with Athens.Phidippides the fastest runner in Athens was told to run to Sparta and ask for help.Sparta did not accept because they were in the middle of a important holiday.Athens was panicking about how they were going to fight Persia. Then a General, Miltiades thought that they should go to the city of Marathon where Persia would be so they would not destroy Athens.Athens brought 11,000 soldiers.Persia brought 16,000;but even though Athens was outnumbered they still had better weapons than Persia. Both sides hid behind the valley, for several days they did not attack.King Darius ordered their Calvary on ships to sail to Athens to destroy it.Athens realizing that Persia's most powerful soldiers were sailing away, they took this as a chance to attack.Athens won and killed 6,400 soldiers and Athens only lost 192.Athens marched back to Athens just in time to meet the Persian Calvary and they wiped them out.
