The first reason this proves the claim is because they had to adapt to the drought in 1977, which had only 20 mm of rainfall the entire year. And then by adapting to the drought they survived until 1978 and with their adaptations they were able to grow in population again

Our reasoning for evidence two is that after the drought, the finches with about 1.12mm longer/thicker beaks from 1976 survived. The rest of the other finches with their smaller beaks however died because without the thick beak, they couldn’t get the food that the rest could; meaning that the thicker-beaked finches were naturally selected and would then most likely begin to reproduce.

The last reason is that they needed thicker beaks than the 1976 finches because the change in seed abundance, because the Portulaca seeds have become severely less in numbers per square meters and the Tribulus to be on average 5 per square meter the hard Tribulus seeds require the thick beak so their bodies adapted to the environment and that shows that they have been affected by natural selection.
