Is it okay to put the next hop ip address instead of exit interface?

Exit interface is better.

If using next hop IP, when the router receive an incoming packet:

1. Check the destination IP

2. Look up the routing table and found the static route

3. Know the next hop IP

4. Look up the routing table AGAIN to find the exit interface for that next hop IP

5. Sent the packet out of the exit interface.

If using exit interface, router can skip Step 4 - save 1 additional lookup for every packet = router can run faster :)
