         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter two when the animals are promoting a revolution some animals don't want to and say, “Why should we care what happens after we are dead?” or “If this Rebellion is to happen anyway, what difference does it make whether we work for it or not?” (19). The animals use rhetorical questions to try to figure out why the revolt is taking place. They're trying to tell the other animals that even though they revolt, it will be for naught because they'll die prematurely.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter 5 after Napoleon sends his dogs to chase Snowball off the farm the animal are scared but Squealer says, ¨Suppose you had decided to follow Snowball, with his moonshine of windmills– Snowball, who, as we now know, was no better than a criminal?” (61). Squealer employs a rhetorical question to reassure the animals that Snowball is a thief and that Napoleon is behaving in the best interests of the animals. He's attempting to persuade the animals that Snowball is a villain.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter 8 after the animals get attacked by Frederick and his men, they win but the windmill is destroyed and the animals are devastated and Squealer says, “What victory, comrade? Have we not driven the enemy off our soil–the sacred soil of Animal Farm?” (111). Squealer is using a rhetorical question to persuade the animals that they won the fight even though the windmill is broken.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter 9 after Boxer dies when Napoleon and Squealer send him to the Knacker, Squealer tries to tell the animals that they sent him to the hospital and he had a peaceful death, ¨“It was the most affecting sight I have ever seen!” (131). Squealer exaggerates to persuade the animals that he was at the hospital with Boxer when he died. He's trying to persuade the animals that Boxer wasn't sold to the knacker.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In chapter 10 when the pigs start to walk on two legs after they said they would never walk on two legs, the animals are skeptical but the sheep come out and say, “Four legs good, two legs better! Four legs good, two legs better! Four legs good, two legs better!” (141). The sheep use repetition to persuade the animals that animals on two legs are now superior to those on four legs. This goes against the old adage, "Four legs good, two legs bad." The pigs manipulate the sheep to alter their behavior.</div>]]></description>
