         <title>Discovery of X-rays</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Working late one evening in his laboratory an eager German Physicist notices a greenish fluorescent light coming for across the room.  Using a Crookes tube on his newest experiment working with electron beams and a gas, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen notices that this light emerges from a blackened box covered in barium platinocyanide on one side when the tube is close to it.  Moving the tube around in different angles, he soon realizes that the bones of his hands show up on the fluorescent screen of paper showing no signs of his flesh.  It was at this moment he realized he had discovered something truly incredible, something he would call X-rays (x the symbol of an unknown variable).  On November 8, 1895 he asked his wife Bertha to test his experiment again, to which he placed her hand over the same paper showing her the results of her skeleton hand wearing nothing but a wedding ring.  At that moment she replied, "I have seen my death".  This new phenomenon would become the first experiment to win a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.  Within a year, the new ray would become the fastest growing discovery to help with medicine, having doctors and nursing use it to find bullets in the body, show broken bones, and even be used in shoe stores to find the right size shoe to fit!</div>]]></description>

         <title>X-ray Shoe Fitter 1940&#39;s</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One weird and bizarre invention that was used with X-rays was the 1940's X-ray Shoe Fitter, which showed the customer what their feet looked like in a pair of shoes giving them an x-ray of their entire foot skeleton instead of using a sizing chart like we use today.  Similar to a Fluoroscopic screen, it produced a set of metatarsal phalanges bones so the consumer could tell if the shoes fit or not.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Coolidge X-ray Tube 1917</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>William David Coolidge, a physicist that graduated from MIT, Massachusetts made a major contribution to X-rays by inventing an improved cathode allowing for deeper images of anatomy imaging. The tube was constructed as a vacuum tube which used a filament that heated up producing the electrons.  The filament added more power to the X-ray tube allowing the tube to heat up more, and producing more intensity with each strike from the cathode to the anode. The advantage of the Coolidge Tube was it was more stable allowing you to increase or decrease the current and its intensity.  Tungsten was also introduced to the tube allowing for more intensity of the X-ray while being struck due to its high atomic number. </div>]]></description>

According to The Definitive Blog, by 2026, there will be an increase in artificial intelligence from $21 billion to $264.85 billion! AI is used to analyze data and create algorithms that can predict issues and find current issues already in the body. It is beneficial because it can spot issues that are undetected by humans. </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Virtual reality creates a realistic picture that can be viewed from any angle, often with 3D glasses or a headset. The increased texture in the image allows the Radiologist to view more details which leads to better diagnoses. In the near future, there may be special eyewear available that has the ability to visualize in 3D and move a screen, or even holograms with just the movement of one’s hands. Technology is also being developed to be able to 3D print a copy of a patient’s body to assist with examining and diagnosing. This will be very beneficial to many fields, especially surgical, to help planning the surgery. <br><br></div>]]></description>

For example, PET scans have recently been used to detect amyloid plaques in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. This technology can be used to detect this disease earlier than before and allow for more treatment options. </div>]]></description>
