One aspect of the book that was interesting was Khalil's death. The author did an excellent job at portraying Khalil and showing how good of a person he was before he died. In addition she portrayed his death really well and also made it to where the reader got more connected to Khalil and his life. Even though Khalil died early on in the book the author really did do a good job on making the readers feel connected with him.

One aspect of the book that was offensive was Hailey being racist. I feel these parts could be offensive to certain people. also the things she said to different people. for example when she asked Maya if she had a cat for thanksgiving due to her being Chinese. Then she told Starr to act like the basketball was a piece of fried chicken at basketball practice. or when she unfollowed Starr’s Tumblr due to her posting a bunch of BLM stuff and awareness stuff. then said the reason she unfollowed it was because she didn't want to see that stuff.

After reading this book it makes me realize how different people lifes are and how many things can be hidden behind a smile. Sometimes reading this book was inspiring because Starr went from not wanting anyone to know she was the witness and doing small little things to stand up for Khalil’s death to participating in protests, going to court and doing interviews. I think this was very inspiring because it shows Starr going out of her comfort zone to stand up for her best friends after his death. At other times of the book it was heartbreaking or sad due to the little breakdowns Starr would have throughout the book. It makes it even more sad because she had seen both of her bestfriends killed right in front of her.

People who like drama, young novels or the book concrete rose should read this book because it is full of drama throughout the whole book. also it is about young adults standing up for themselves against cops and racism.
