People went to mining camps so they can learn to mine, the camps were dangerous. I went to a mine camp when I first learned to mine. I spent my day in camp, knee deep in icy streams, where we sifted through tons of mud to see if there is gold in the mud/stream. We called to mine camps "Mad Mule Gulch, Hang Town, and Coyote Diggings". Sometimes the mine camps could be dangerous. After the day was over we were exhausted. There was poor food and if you were a miner like myself; there was a disease that could damage your health. Some gold miners grew rich

A gold rush occurs when a large number of people move to a site were gold has been found. Minors found gold in streams flowing through the Sierra Nevada mountains. People wanted to move to California when they heard about the gold. About 2/3's of forty niners were American. By 1825, the gold rush was over. Over 250,000 people came to California. This was huge impact because there was an economic growth. The impact on the gold rush ruined some Californians. Native American suffered even more. A final effect on the gold rush was that by 1849 California had enough people to apply a statehood. For some people California statehood proved to be opportiny of a lifetime.

Tails to California and Competition among the Miners

There were a couple trails to California during the gold rush, the Oregon trail, most forty-niners that were from the midwest or east travel on this trail. Another trail was the Panama shortcut; this trail made it easier to cutting off 8,000 miles and a few months. The last trail was the around the Cape Horn, the trail was kind of uncommon, people didn't use this very much. Also people who did take this trail didn't like it very much. They traveled on a boat which cost hundreds to thousands of dollars, they had a small room that they had for 8 months. As I came to California from China I had to take one one these trails. When I did come here I noticed that there were a little completion among miners. there was completion in the mine camps I believe, I didn't go to the camps since I am only a Chinese immigrant. If someone found gold in the stream then people will try and find more to try and impress the camp leader which is usually a professional miner. But there isn't that much completion, well at least not that I seen.
