In my opinion, i think that people reacted more violently to Lord Durhams report because his recommendations caused many problems for the people. Such as the Responsible government because it was too much for the imperial government, whose leaders believed tight administrative control in the colonies was necessary to maintain allegiance to Britain. Also, The lower French Canadians had no say, their voices were denied as a consequence because the constitution of Lower Canada had been suspended in the wake of the rebellions.

I think people reacted to Lord Durhams report in a negatively way because the French mainly thought that they would have to change almost everything about themselves (language, culture, traditions etc.) When Lord Durham suggested to uniting Lower and Upper Canada that made the French scared because the English would become more dominate. The British would act in a negatively way also because many Brits were wealthy and they thought that their power and land would be taken away.

I think that people did react in a negative way towards Lord Durham's report(mostly the British Upper Class). However, that does not mean that they reacted in a violent way towards it. Sure a lot of people must have been ranting and complaining but I don't think this is something worth starting a rebellion for.

I think that some of the people reacted positively, while others reacted negatively. Some people reacted positively mostly the British middle class and lower class liked it because it was more fair and balanced for them. The people that reacted negatively were the French because when upper and lower Canada were untied it was done without the support or participation of the French. They also didn't have a say in the government until 1843. French also felt like they had to live in the British culture and and leave there French roots.

In my opinion, I think that the French reacted to Lord Durham's report was negative, because Lord Durham talked about uniting both Upper & Lower Canada, which made them more of an minority, make them lose their identity, and make them live into a different culture.

I believe that there were many mixed reviews over Lord Durham's report. For the wealthy Brits, I believe that they were affected by the idea of responsible government. The idea of a responsible government would make the upper class less likely to gain control. As for the French, I believe that they reacted negatively towards the idea of assimilating into a different culture, and leaving their French roots.

I think that people didn't act peacefully, but they didn't necessarily act violently either. People were angry at change, like some people still are. I think the French population regarded the report as a bit racially discriminatory, but I think that they actually got quite a few benefits from the report, the British people however were probably annoyed at the fact that the system changed after so many years.

I think that the French acted peacefully because with upper and lower Canada merging together, it can make mother French much stronger when United. The Durhams Report also stated that the province of Canada must have a responsible government. This tells them that they will no longer be treated unfairly anymore.

I don't believe they acted violently, but I can almost guarantee threats were made. If your Nationality and culture were about to be eradicated, would you be okay with that? No. You would wan't to keep it, just as the French were. The British on the other hand were upset because there space was about to be taken up by French Canadians because of the "Union". So the British were more neutral than violent or peaceful. The French were probably just aggressive.

I think that the British were at ease with Lord Durham's suggestions. However, the French, on the other hand rejected this colonization. British still contained most of the power. French's power was little and was getting lesser and lesser. French considered the act as a threat to their society and culture.
