THe overall message being sent by the movie was the importance of generosity, forgiveness, greed and kindness.  A little boy, whom was crippled, named Tim (Tiny Tim) was used to represent the poor, less fortunate people in the town during the Christmas holiday. Tim and his family had always been a part of the less fortunate so their idea of Christmas spirit was much different from other who were wealthier. The wealthy miserable man, Scrooge, never thought of giving back because he had never understood the idea of not having something. His idea of Christmas spirit was getting gifts instead of giving. Scrooge isolated himself until the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future paid him a visit and made him realize that if he doesn't change his ways he will die alone. I remember that there are three, technically 4 ghosts: Past, Present and Future are the main three but you can count Death as a forth. All the ghosts visited Ebenezer Scrooge to show him a moment in his life either past, present or future where he was not doing the right thing and being mean.
