Revenue:
- Nike is the larger business overall and market leader in the global sports footwear industry with revenues from footwear over $24,2 billion in 2018 (includes converse).
- Adidas footwear revenue in 2018 was $15 billion (included reebok).
However Adidas has had more revenue growth as Adidas added $5.9 billion since 2015 (growing 17.6%) whereas Nike has only grown $4.3 billion at (6.8%).

Share Price:
Adidas has a higher share price performance in 2019 as Adidas shares are outperforming the market whereas Nike have been growing in line with industry performance.

Cool Factor:

- Estimated in 2019 that global sneaker market was worth $100 billion, while the resale market was worth $6 billion.

Unhinged consumerism:
- Sustainability experts claim the fast-drop sneaker model is unhealthy.
- Sneaker brands have manufactured false needs in consumers, using the frequency and scarcity of drops.
- Sneakerheads are prepared to spend large sums.
- Counterfeiters are moving into supply missed collections and many people secure genuine products to flip them on StockX.

Scalable solutions:
- Brands could slow the rate of consumption by limiting the pace of sneaker drops, but there is little incentive to do so.
- Legislative action is one route, fines for the environmental/social impact brands have caused.

Designing to support sustainable behaviours:
- If brands sold spare parts and welded the soles differently, cobblers wouldn't have to buy a whole new 'donor pair' to replace a sole - sneakers will always be disposable if the sole isn't replaceable. 
- Sustainable materials and initiatives already exist, but ultimately their success will be determined by how much brands invest in scaling them.
