Some three weeks ago I left my hometown Vienna in Austria to study in Madrid for a year. It was in the context of preparing the many personalized forms and documents which are required for the student exchange that I made this menacing photo of myself. I now find myself feeling a stranger on many levels - in Spain, at the university, on this kind of self-exposing websites, tandem learning with americans even though it's as much a foreign language to me as for them. One way usually takes about 45 minutes, a long time that I'm not used to from Vienna and it also goes mostly underground - so I don't see too much of the city on my rides. But as soon as I am back to the daylight, I enjoy my surrounding here even more. My personal highlight are the magpies, who are not as numerous and definetely not as cheeky and confident where I come from.
