- Tourism plays a big part in Venice's economy as it brings in a lot of revenue through tourism packages, cruises and souvenir shops. The money earned can be used to improve the city's infrastructure and give the people better and cleaner sanitation, as well as building more schools for children. This improves the standard of living for the locals.

- Venice's GDP was 30,500 EUR in 2008.

- Cruise ships have contributed to the air pollution of the country
It is recorded that Venice's sea air contains up to 500 ultra-fine particles per cubic centimetre – 500 times higher than normal sea air. 
These particles are carried hundreds of kilometres inland by the winds, causing deterioration to people's heath. 

Particulate matter is linked to severe health problems such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, including strokes and cancer

- Cruise ships in Venice also cause damage to the fragile structure of the city
The ships cause tides that erode the foundations of buildings. 
They also destroy the cityscape as they dwarf the city's monuments.

- Tourism is an expensive business
Due to overcrowding of tourists, shops such as grocery stores, butchers, bakeries and book shops are closing to leave space for souvenir shops, and for this reason Venice is becoming more and more expensive. This result in the country spending more of its resources and money on sustaining the tourism in Venice.
