a.    Execute all technical duties and procedures required in the appropriate operations manuals.

b.    Responsible for the care, comfort and safety of passengers from the time of embarkation to the time of disembarkation

c.     Responsible for the safety of the airplane from the time he signs the airplane papers. Responsibility ceases only when the airplane is committed to the care of the responsible engineering personnel or relieved by another commander.

d.    Use initiative to act in the best interests of the Company after taking into account all known factors and regulations.

e.     Promote and protect the image of the Company and prevent misdemeanor of crew members, particularly when they are away from base.

f.       At the end of the flight, complete and sign all documents and reports required

 

The First Officer is the Copilot under the immediate command of the Captain at all times while on duty and away from base.  The Co-pilot has the following duties:

 

·        Execute all technical duties and procedures required in the appropriate operations manuals.

·        In flight, ensure that a navigation log is maintained and that all position reports are promptly made. Obtain weather reports and assist the Captain to determine the in-flight fuel requirements.

·        Complete AIREP (air report) forms to be submitted to the meteorological authorities.  Record the flight times and crew names in the voyage record.

·        Prior to leaving the flight deck at the end of the flight, ensure that the flight deck is left neat and tidy and that all post flight documents are deposited in the proper place.

2.     All cabin crew are responsible to the Captain of the airplane during the   tour of duty for the safety, comfort and well-being of passengers.  Cabin crew duties are as follows:

a.    Prior to flight departure, report to the Captain for a briefing on relevant aspects of the flight, eg. Weather, flight time, safety, etc

b.    Inform the Captain of any changes to the rostered cabin crew, in-flight service to be carried out and special carriage of passengers, eg. VIP, unaccompanied minors, invalids, etc.

c.     Brief the passengers on emergency exits and equipment and restrictions of personal radio, handphones, laptop computers, etc

d.    During the flight, liaise with the Captain on any change of activities and services in the cabin.

3.     The commercial operation of aircraft is a highly complex matter.  As such, it is important that such operation be based on clearly defined standards and procedures.  It is also a statutory requirement that an Operations Manual containing the necessary information and instructions, be provided to operating staff to enable them to perform their duties.

 

4.     The following parts are usually found in any Operations Manual:

·        Flight (Technical) Crew Operating Manuals

·        Cabin Crew Manuals

·        Flight Crew rostering instructions

·        Safety and accident prevention manual

·        Information on weight and balance supplied to handling agents
