Write your answers to the questions below. 

i.   What are some of the things you like to do during your free time?

ii.  What is your favourite subject in school?

iii.  When you are in a bookstore or in the library, what type of books will you pick up and read first? 

iv.  What are your favourite hobbies, sports and recreational activities?

v.  If you’ve ever thought that someday you might write a book, what would the subject of that book be?

vi.  If someone asked you what your favourite interests are, what would you say?

Think back on any 3 activities that you have completed successfully from secondary school till now. 

Select activities that you enjoyed, which had a clear outcome like completing an event or winning a computer game.  Avoid stories focusing on achieving academic grades.

i.  It could be a study project that you have completed, experiences from school, home, volunteer work, paid work or during your free time. 

ii.  Your story should include the following points:
- What did you do?
- What were the goals you wanted to achieve?
- What were the obstacles?
- How long did you take to achieve your goals?
- What was the outcome?

iii.  Make an inventory of your skills using the My Transferable Skills handout.

iv.  Share one of your stories and the identified skills with your friend(s).

  

i.  Review your list of skills from your skills inventory in Activity 2.

 

ii.  Cross out those skills you don’t enjoy using.

 

iii.  Select 8-10 skills you enjoy using.

 

iv.  From the 8-10 skills, list them in order from most favourite to least favourite.

 

v.  The top 5 are your Best Transferable Skills.

 

vi.  Write these skills in the My Best Transferable Skills section of My Parachute handout.

 

i.  Review your stories from Activity 2.

 

ii.  What personal traits were used in the stories? Traits describe how you have used your skills or how you manage yourself in relation other people.  They can include:

 

“Creative”, "Adaptable" (in using Skills with Ideas)

“Thorough” , "Eye for details", "Decisive" (in using Skills with Data)

“Compassionate”; "Reliable" (in using Skills with People)

 

iii.  List them in order from most favourite to least favourite and select the top 3 traits.
