While there, the student will be assessed of willingness to participate. Six to eight students will be chosen to participate. If there are more kids that fit the criteria, two small group sessions will be run. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Group Dynamics</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The population for this group is 6th grade students with emotional disturbance and/or excessive disciplinary referrals due to anger outbursts. <br><strong>Stage 1:</strong>  This stage will focus on building trust and a relationship among the participants. Due to the nature of the group (students with anger outbursts) it is vital that we work together to create a safe place where everyone feels welcome. This stage will also include "icebreaker" activities and reiteration of the group rules.<br><strong>Stage 2: </strong> This stage will continue on building relationships through group activities and sharing. Individual and group goal setting will take place during this stage. <br><strong>Stage 3: </strong>This stage will focus on ending and closing of the group. Group activities will still be done to build relationships, and goal status sharing will take place. Celebrations of the conclusions of the group will take place as well. Students will have a chance to share what they learned and to congratulate peers. Post assessment test will be given and a one month follow up session scheduled. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Leadership </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This group will be cross between a participative leadership style and a transformational leadership style. With this style the leader has clear control, which would be needed for students that have behavioral issues. Participants, however, are encouraged to participate and share ideas (Cherry, 2020). It will also help build trust and respect among the participants. Transformational leadership will come in when the leader stays energized and persuasive, creating a positive change within the group (Cherry, 2020). Because changed behavior is the hoped for outcome, it is important that the leader is focused on helping every member succeed. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many of Yalom's curative factors  (1995) will be present in this group. There will be an instillation of hope. The children will see that there is an adult who believes in them and believes that they can make the changes necessary to be successful in school. The fact that the counseling itself is in a group will bring universality. The students will know that they are not alone, and are not the odd ones out. They will also develop socializing techniques, both in forming relations with their peers in the group and learning appropriate social skills. Through the use of role playing activities the student will learn interpersonal skills as well. Last, from the school counselor, the students will receive direct advice in handling their emotions appropriately. </div>]]></description>

A.7 (f) of the Ethical Standards states that school counselors must take precautions to protect members from harm as a result of interactions in the group. As a result of this, topics will be kept school appropriate with a goal of reduced behavioral referrals in the classroom. <br><br>The ASCA ethical standards section A.7 (a) states that the school counselor my facilitate short-term groups to help kid academic and social/emotional issues. </div>]]></description>
