The Puritans were English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries who sought to purify the Church of England of Roman Catholic practices. They were soon put under persecution by the king and as result, they fled England and set sail for the "New World", or North America. There in Massachusetts they established the Massachusetts Bay colony and practiced their beliefs heavily. More spread about witchcraft happened by young girls, and they were called in to get checked. These girls would do freaky and crazy things in the courtroom like freeze and complain about biting and pinching sensations and whatnot.
