He goes on saying, “ I managed to recover physically, at least. But my life would never be the same again” (264-266). After that, he shows his guilt when he says, “I knew that I could have saved K. if i had tried” (280-281). He said that if he would have ran over to where he was, he could have reached his hand out and save K., but he didn’t. He was guilty because he thought it was all his fault. He then had a dream and mentioned that, “I’m being dragged down under the surface. I see K.’s fsce there. He has the same huge grin, split from ear to ear, his eyes locked on mine” (299-301).
