Timeline 3 Instructional days

Background:
7th Grade uses Costa’s 3 levels as an intro to levels of Q’s.  In 8th Grade we introduce a blend of Bloom’s and Costa’s to uplevel Q’s.

Outline:
Students received a handout blending Bloom’s and Costa’s

PPT:  Attached… 
Quikwrite: Students were asked to work together to discuss how relevant questions are important in life.
Students took CNotes on levels of Q from the PPT and were given various pictures and asked to develop a level 1 Question… This process continued through level 2 and 3.

As a culminating activity, students were given pieces of a puzzle, and asked to create a picture.  From there, they developed levels of Questions as a group.  A gallery walk followed where more questions were added.

Timeline 3 Instructional days

Background:
Some students are introduced to Thinking Tools in Advanced ELA.  I introduce Thinking Tools to all 8th graders during Q2 (for some it might be a review).

Outline:
Students took notes from a PPT over the course of 2 periods.  During this time we discussed the different Thinking Tools.

As a culminating activity, students were asked to apply the knowledge of Thinking Tools to a previously created C-Note from a core class. In a discussion we identified how this practice increased understanding and improved questions.
