He had knocked on the door and went inside and had talked a bit to Mrs. Wright which he eventually asked if he could see Mr. Wright to which she said that he was home but he was dead. She then further explained that he had died from a rope around his neck. He then brought Harry in and went upstairs and found him dead.

Mrs. Hale was asked by the attorney how unclean and not taken care of the house was especially the kitchen. She told him that she knew her and got along well but that being farm housewives is a lot of work so she hadn't been over to the house in a while.

Mrs. Hale asks Mrs. Peters if she thinks that Martha had killed him to which she doesn't know but don't think she did. There didn't seem to be any sense of anger or sudden feelings to give a motive. The recent block of quilt was also more rough and unlike the rest as if she was nervous.

A bird cage was found and appeared to be partly broken which implies someone was rough with it and also that Mrs. Wright must of had a bird at some point. Mrs. Hale wishes she had come around more even with being busy but the place didn't feel that cheerful.

The ladies had found a pretty box and had originally thought it was for scissors but turned out to be the dead bird to which somebody had wrung it's neck. They then kept it hidden from the men and saying that a cat must have got it and left. There was the crime but no proof as to actually did it.
