It makes sure that the character is as similar to the person in real life. It makes sure that the things that we do in real life are shown on the stage, be it as little or unnoticable as a blink. This is because certain things go unnoticed when performed right, but when the actor misses out on it, it suddenly becomes as noticable as the character itself. 

Complimenting the other performers on stage is another important thing according to me. Listening to him/her, noticing how he/she's reacting to you and focussing on how you react to it are some things, as I said earlier, which go unnoticed when done right, but are very visible when done wrong.

Drawing the experiences from the life of oneself is something which we're all aware about. But making sure that we react on the stage the same way that we would react in real life is something which is really difficult. But we have to make sure that we pay attention to detail. Good observation is a skill that every performer must have according to me. Only when we observe, we are able to tell the difference between what is acting and what is not.
