Mentoring- Frisco ISD has a mentor program for 1st year teachers, perhaps we could look at extending this relationship and partner teachers up with other grade levels.

Providing guidance with classroom management ideas and strategies that could work.

Being a friend as well as a colleague- forming relationships so the newer teachers feel comfortable coming for help.

Model when appropriate- have shared activities where veteran teachers can have both groups of students together and the newer teacher can watch the lesson and help with support. Or offer support during planning. The veteran teacher can show the newer teacher how they plan on teaching certain lessons and the vocabulary focus.

-Andrea

Academic Strengths for Math and Reading

1-Students need to be exposed to different problem solving situations across all content areas. I believe this will help them achieve goals, with their stamina and their confidence.

2- Exposure to academic vocabulary in every subject.

3- Exposure to non academic vocabulary.

4-Understanding that the majority of our population comes from families that English is not their first language. They may or may not be in ESL classified, but their understanding and comprehension of English is a challenge. The use of complete sentences, modeling and holding EVERY student accountable to complete and master their work.

5-Exposing students to every literary genre, classical music playing as we enter the building, during transitions or lunch. Have copies of famous artwork in the hallways to make it feel like a museum.

Sebastian

Ideas for supporting EBs at Curtsinger.

Language Buddies: Pair (newcomers) with native English-speaking peers for language support. Maybe they meet monthly, or every other month as a type of club to promote conversation groups??? Still working on ideas and how this would look.

The last 2 weeks, I've been goal setting with all 2nd-5th grade EBs but next year, I plan to start in December and really work with the older students to self-assess their English proficiency and start talking about goals earlier.

I also plan to make sure parents know what supports are available for them and their student(s). I plan to share information about 2-3 types of district supports that parents may not be families with. Make sure students know what supports are available for them.

Another idea I had was to contact one EB family each week to share a success story about their child. I would need staff to buy in and share stories with me... But I think this would be a great way to incorporate the campus communication goal if that is still a focus next year.

I might not be able to implement all of these in 1 school year, so I'm open to prioritizing and suggestions.
