voluntary service also helped including-      
St Johns Ambulance, Northern Rail and the British Red Cross.
they helped with first aid and supporting people who were under great shock by handing out hand drinks and helping people get to safety for example getting them to hotels or shelters for the night. taxi also joined in to help by giving free of charge taxis to get people to hospitals and hotels.
